finally got my 375 h&h home!

I bought a win model 70 stainless classic 375 h&h off here in February. Bought it in puyallup on a business trip and couldnt bring home. Met my cousin and he brought it to me today. Installed a limb saver sissy pad today. Going to get some loc tight and I stall the scope and base tomorrow... ill post pics then. Got a egw base amd had to modify it for scope clearance. Ill also post pics of that too. Going to sight it in this week for spring bear!

Great cartridge, recoil on a H&H is very manageable. I think you will be surprised, more of a push as compared the the quicker recoil/ jump of let's say a .300 Win Mag. I hunted with a H&H for years and it anchored everything quick, Esspecialy Elk. Back then I used the 300gr Hornady BTSP. I did take one bear with the 270 Hornady. Then I changed to the 260gr Ballistic tip for a bit before for I switched completly over to the .375 Ultra Magnum and the 260gr Accubond.

. I know the recoil as not as sharp as others but just wanted to be proactive with the pad. These guns are hammers! I killed my elk last year with one using a 270 grain hornady and it flat leveled that bull! Completely ruined me... from that second i knew i needed my own. I am planning to shoot the 300 grain hornady btsp out of it but For spring bear this year I have some nosler custom ammo with 260 partitions ($40 a box was too cheap not to buy... wish they had more). Wishing o could skip out on work amd hit the range!

A 375 anything is a great choice!

I'll bet it shoots lights out. All of the 375s I've seen or owned have been extremely accurate with just about anything you can cram in there. I wouldn't be surprised if it shoots less than 1" at 100 for you.

I went and shot this afternoon. Got sighted In at 220 yards... that gun is a peach to shoot ! I like it. Best part was round numbers 6,7,8 went into a 1 inch group... at 220 yards! I was jacked  that was with a 10 power scope. Now I need to find a bear in a couple weeks

For blackbear I would look at shooting those soft lead bullets that Biggerhammer mentioned for his H&H.  Though I do not think Nosler is making a .375 Ballistic Tip any more.

I just picked up a 300 H&H and shot it yesterday 

it kicked only a little bit more than a Mosin Nagant 7.62X54R

I broke my h&h in last week on my spring bear! 260 partition smashed both shoulders and left a 1.5-2 inch exit. Lungs were hanging 6 inches out the existing side and lung and blood was sprayed behind where the be a was standing... he didn't go far! I really like this gun! Wish I bought one years ago

Very fond of the chambering, along with the 7x57. If I had to choose only two big game chambering's, those would be the two.

The 7x57 with a 160gr bullet is at that magic efficient, kill them just right velocity. I like big, fast and over the top but dead is dead.

Hey Radsav I think the shot was 70-80 yards or so. I know you dont like partitions for bear because of your experiences but 260 grains of anything can really ruin a bears day. It was almost in range for a bow shot but I dont think I would have had time.

I think they are fine in slower medium-short range guns.  And in BIG slower guns probably great!  Doubt you were planning on that being a long range shooter anyway   My biggest beefs have been with high velocity guns and especially the .270 130 grain.  In those cases where I had to finish off bear for customers the bullet, front of the partition, exploded/disintegrated before ever making it to any vitals.  Then all you had was a smooth cylinder cruising through doing little more than a small amount of bruising.  One bear in particular shot with the 130/.270 had a small puncture wound through the center of both lungs and damage (bruising only) looked less than the diameter of a dime.  We'd have probably lost that bear if I didn't have a bad arse dingo attached to his back side

Too often guys think of blackbear as impenetrable and use hard bullets with slow expansion rates.  Then when the bear runs for an hour after the shot they say, "Man that bear was tough!"  When in reality the bullet never started to work until it was leaving the opposite side.  You need to be able to break them down if needed, but you also want to expand reasonably quick if you miss that shoulder and only contact the flimsy ribs.  Slower and larger partitions seem to do that well.  Sounds to me like yours did it perfectly

  my 375 is meant for a short to medium range brush gun for shots to 300 or so yards.

I had a Remington 700 XCR Stainless 375H+H, I had a custom brake installed by a gunsmith in Covington.  What a fun gun to shoot, was a strong push that didnt jar teeth.  Had to sell it a few years ago for divorce reasons but im getting ready to get another one, I miss that gun! It was my favorite gun to shoot.  Watching 5 gal buckets of water explode on impact was a blast!

My 375 h&h ackley improved shoots 5 shot groups at 100 yards you could cover with a 50 cent piece. 85 grains of H 414 pushing a 235 gn Barnes X bullet.

A friend of mine in Australia has the exact same gun, when I hunted water buffalo that's what I used, it didn't kick that much and it did a job on those buffalo. I really liked it.

I sold my 375 last year. Kinda missed it, so picked up a 30-06 this year with the intent of 9.3x62'ing it.

It ain't quite the H&H, but 250's at 2700ish will do.
