Coyote Tactics?

Im looking at getting a coyote, I want to get some blood on the new bow and I have a mink carcus laying around still from trapping season.
Im thinking I want to use half of it for bait to get after some dogs.

Here's what Im wondering, What is the best way to go about setting bait like a mink carcus. Is it going to even draw in any dogs or will I need to call along with the smell.
They're pretty pungent already so should I set it fresh, or let it rott alittle...
Do I just throw it out somewhere then get somewhere upwind and wait? I was even thinking of using a treestand then using bait down below to try to eliminate them trying to circle around and beat me with the wind.

Good luck getting one with your bow over bait. They are pretty nocturnal . I think calling would work combined with the bait. A tree stand should work good. Bait combined with a trail cam will let you know if they are in the area. Go get em.

Never have used bait and calls at the same time. I doubt if the bait is going to help you out much while calling, unless Mink is something I don't know about. When calling, I have found it best to set up somewhere you can see them coming in until they get close. Then you want them to go out of sight, which is when you draw back, and then hopefully the appear with in 30 yards and you are ready to shoot with no movement or sound. Most times, if they are within sight when you draw, they will go from galloping in to running away in a second. Be ready to take a moving shot; not advisable on large game, but for coyotes, you gotta take advantage of every shot you can get.

My number one go to tactic is putting on my blue lycra road runner suit and run around the desert doing a lot of tounge protruding.  Seriously though a good e caller best thing.  IMO it should be the thing you spend the most money on not your rifle or scope etc.  A good caller should be easy to use day or night long battery life easy set up of calling files and sequences longest wireless remote to caller distance.  Long battery life ie rechargeable.  They come in and you and strategically place it up wind away  from you in a spot you can maximize your concealment and clear shooting zones.  you can bring them in to you and keep them focused on the call and not you

Set up behind a bush or small tree to mask your draw,  set the bait up not far from the bush you hide behind, if you call it has to be a certain kind of call, coyotes have a fairly sophisticated communication system, if you were to just use the bait it could take hours upon hours if they even showed up in the day time,

I would recommend just using a call, if you use the bait too I'd tie a piece of fishing line around a piece of it, if you see one and you can make it jiggle a bit they will come right in.

Also SET UP DOWN WIND, or use scent master and plenty of it, coyotes are smart and various, but, VERY curious

Learn how to use a closed reed call and a diaphragm call (for hands free calling) and you will do fine. A small ecall and or feather decoy can be added for distraction if you can afford it. Just remember that ecalls take batteries and they aren't free or always work.

I would suggest waiting for now and try when the young of the year are out and about.

When is that? I know how to use both diaphram and closed reed calls I just dont have any for predators really, just a closed reed raspy rabibit.

The raspy rabbit will work fine for predators and you can do some form of distress with all diaphragm calls. It just takes a bit of practice. Just start blowing and puttering and you will learn what technique is required for each sound.

Ive got three diaphrams all from elk101, Bugling bull, Cow call, and the all star. something along those lines. When do the pups start to come out to play? Maybe I can find a young dumb one.
