Snow melt in 49 degrees?

We made a day of driving thru 49 last thursday. My dad(81) has a tag so we are only road hunting. Saw lots of Moose but no bears or tracks crossing roads. We will give it a drive again next week.

Same boat as you, same results, except in Huckleberry. Difference is quite a few of the high roads are completely open.

I was all over 49d last weekend (3 full days) and didn't even see any sign    Ran into two other guys and they hadn't seen anything either. I'm planning to head back over the last weekend of May. Hopefully they'll be out in force by then.

You guys have been pretty much wasting gas money. Do yourself a favor and wait till at least the 10th. Most years I won't start bear hunting till May 15th, this year the 10th might work. Good luck!

the bears are thinking about coming out.  I have seen a couple up high.  A buddy saw 2 over by Power Lake.  It's warm here now, the snow is melting.

We will be over the mountain on Sunday the 11th till the 19th with two tags, I don't mind hunting hard. Not looking for a canned hunt just a decent size bear or two
