elk mountain tents?
«

So I stumbled across a company selling wall tents for a decent price, they are elk mountain. anyone ever heard of them? they seem pretty cheap for the size, but im not sure if it would be worth the money on a tent that isnt bravo, montana canvis, denver tent etc.
I dont really need a big tent, and pretty well had my heart set on a 12x12 alaknak, but I can get a 13x13 for the same price through elk mountian, so figure it was worth asking.

Looks like a nice product made in Idaho. I'd go for the 13x13 before the alaknak. $649. with the angles, 4 windows and a stove jack.

upon my further reading of their site, they are sold from idaho, made in china.... I have requested a sample of their tent material. might be a good choice, price is sure right if they are a decent tent.

I think the Alaknaks are made in China as well.

They are bobcat. being made in china isnt gonna make or break the sale for me, I only will have $1000 to spend on a tent, including any assundrys I can buy for it. My friend has a 12x12 outback lodge, it is very good quality, and the alaknak fixes the only complaints I have about the outback lodge, (lack of stove, door design, and sidewalls.)
im sure that a local tent would have better build quality, and would have better customer support should the need arise, But by the time I price out the same size bravo, with angle kit, a couple basic windows, and high wind kit, its quite a bit more then I can afford now.
At this point, I am looking at a 5 year investment, that I can recoup some cost out of when I upgrade, or use as extra sleep tent etc when I have the money to get the bigger tent that I will eventually need.

I don't know looks ok to me. Has some nice features. The ridge openings are nice.
They are saving on the canvas but they say it is better.
If you go for one I would go the $100.00 extra and get the 13x16 39 sq ft more space which is the wood stove.
Unless you are worried about set up yourself.

at this point and time I am worried about self setup, and most of, if not all of the time, I will be with less then 4 people. more often then not it will need to sleep 2. here in a few years (5-6) I will buy a bigger tent, and either sell whatever I purchase soon, or use as a cookshack, etc sleeping quarters etc.
At this point, stored size is another consideration I have, only so much room in a suburban, and the tent will be used when the trailer doesnt go.
a smaller tent to me, seems like it would be easier to hang and dry inside of a house as well. no shop or garage just yet
