the narrows is one of the best ling spots around, you just gotta learn how to fish it, super snaggy, we use to use metal clothes hangers and put are gear between it, it was kinda like a bumper, big friggin lings down there and lots of them, to bad a guy cant find a mess of fresh kelp greenling, great bait, especially if its live.... i dont even know if thats legal anymore though :dunno: can you even retain bottom fish out there anymore? i will pm you another spot out there in the narrows that has always been good and not near as snaggy, i dont fish out there anymore so i dont mind giving up a good spot

Is live bait legal?
Yes if it is a legal fish species, and native to the water, or something like that :chuckle: Someone else will clear this up, but short answer, yes.

I wouldent have posted it if it wasent legal.... ;)

I can appreciate that. I was told more than once at Sekiu that it was illegal to fish with live bait, that is why I asked. If it legal great, I love greenling as bait for large lings.

:chuckle: i pmd the op, hit him up i am sure it wouldnt hurt for him to tell ya where i told him especially how close you live to day iasland marina, if i was you gasman beings how close you are i would get real good at fishing the old narrows bridge, i wish i could explain how to use the clothes hanger trick, it works pretty good and you can still use it for live bait, you gotta use heavy line and heavy wire leader when fishing around the old bridge, but damn there are lings down there as long as your boat, dont put your arm in there mouth or ya come back with a stump

I will be out there tomorrow.  Gonna try and get some flounder by nisqually for live bait, then hit up the Narrows.   My first time ever doing the Ling thing.  Should be exciting.  If anyone else has some pointers they would be greatly apprecitated.... :dunno:

Don't know where you're launching from, but there are flounder on bottom in most of the whole general area- no need to go to Nisqually unless it's convenient. Try jigging some herring for live bait-works good! A garbage can with a bucket for recirc works good enough if you lack a live well. In the Narrows make sure you fish around slack tides. Use cheap break-away weights, etc. Good luck.
