I had a very successful drop camp with Bill Wooden from 4WAir a number of years ago. He did a great job, moved me where I needed to go, is a hunter himself and is a very experienced pilot. He has a website. That would be my first choice if I was looking, he can answer your questions with true hands on experience.

I have done a couple,
The 1st was in Mulchatna, but that herd hasn't quite come back from a huge nose dive so I wouldn't recommend that one.
The other was a moose/caribou combo and if you are looking for caribou alone there are better places than where I went on that hunt.

I would recommend 40 mile air out of Tok, they put people in great areas.

If your looking for this year, your running late, most of the good taxi's are booked by New Years.

I've thought about that one also, it would be a great hunt if you really wanted a good economy hunt. If you worked really hard you could do it for less than 2K complete.

In 08 I went up there. The 40 mile hunt was fun out of chicken. Alot of people and alot of caribou very steep but a blast. We didn't seal the deal there so we drove up the hall road, we ended up getting 2 bulls 5.5 miles off the road. Just remember if a diy hunt with a rifle you need to be 5 miles off the road, fish and game up there do fly in checks so a GPS is a must.

I've done it twice.  Only a 10-11 hour drive up the dalton from Fairbanks.  I had a blast and was successful both years.  If you want more details PM me.

Its only 46 hours from Puget Sound to Fairbanks, not nearly as fun as it sounds :)
