Prior to 2014, the cost for a non-resident to apply for a moose, goat, or sheep tag in Montana was $25 per specie.
Starting in 2014, the cost is $70 per specie.
This is supposedly offset by a non-resident no longer being required to front the tag cost at the time of application.
Draw ddds for the better permits are in the 1% to 2% range; some better, some far worse.
The net effect will likely be that elimination of fronting the cost will result in more new applicants which in turn makes draw odds worse. Those who have supported Montana for many years will be stuck either throwing away their points, or being forced to pay more to stay in the game.
