Leupold RX 1000 TBR DNA vs Vortex Ranger 1000
« on: April 28, 2014, 01:08:59 PM »
I was hoping that those of you who know anything about these rangefinders could chime in. Looking to purchase one soon and I need a little help. Between Leupold and the Vortex which is a more accurate and better rangefinder? Thank you in advance.

I am glad you posted this, because I am in the same boat and have been looking at the exact two models you mentioned.  I have tried both in the store, and I like the red reticle in the Leupold a little better than the black on the Vortex.  It seemed a little easier for me to pick up the objects with.  That being said, I don't think you could go wrong with either model.

I am curious to see what others experience is.

Thanks for the post.

I just purchased the vortex, mostly for archery but after getting pretty steady readings up to 850 yards I think it would work fine for most rifle/Muzzy guys...I havent got to use it in a wide variety of conditions tho

I heard two direct comparisons first hand that put the vortex ahead of Leupold , pluss after my last Leopold range finder I had no reason to buy another

Hope this helps

The vortex is the one with the red numbers.  I went with the vortex because of the life time warrenty.  Leuopold has a 2 year warrenty last time I checked.  But some people don't like the .5 second delay on the readings of the vortex.  No matter what they all say they are not going to be fog proof 100% of the time.  I had my vortex fog up on me this year and it was when I needed it most.  Maybe there is something I did wrong but I think when it is 38 degrees and raining and it is warm from your body temp it is going to fog up no matter what.

He does I checked. Was going to say the same thing.  Way cheaper than amazon or any where else I could find.

I would get the vortex. It's completely waterproof, has a lifetime warranty, and the brightness, optic and build quality is the same as the leupold to me, if not better. The leupold isn't waterproof and only has a 1 or 2 year warranty. On trees and brush I can consistently get over 700 yds with my vortex. Yes it takes a split second longer to range than the leupold, but it's still well under 1 second. Both great products but I believe the vortex is the better option. The vortex has the red illuminated numbers, and the brightness of the display is adjustable.

I own the vortex 1000 and have had no problems with mine fogging up-the only issue I have is when you are hunting in snow it is very hard for me to read the yardage numbers even on the darkest setting because of the red illumination-has anyone else had this issue? :dunno:

I had a Leupold RX III 1000 TBR and it worked well for 3+ years and a week ago it died.  I mailed the old one to the warranty repair place on Thursday last week and a brand new RX IV 1500 TBR was waiting on my doorstep when I got home today.  Hard to be mad about it breaking when they do something like that
