Sorry, just having a little fun. It was central I guess. They call it South Sound I believe.

I saw it last night when I went to re-hang a camera that a bear ripped down off of a tree yesterday. It looked as if it took a bite out of the tree between when I found my camera on the ground and I went back in with better anchors. I took a picture of it because it was so early in the season. Normally I see them start late May to early June. They will test trees to see if it is they are ready by taking bites out of them until they find the ones that are ready. At that time they will do a lot more than test them.

Close.

They actually pull the bark off with their claws rather than taking bites out of the trees.

Here are a couple early "taste tests" from years past. Notice the spacing on the claw marks.

This one is low to the ground and done by a cub.

This one was 3-4 feet off the ground and done by an adult.

Never saw a single fresh one until after my spring tag was punched. Don't worry sled...peels are where bears have been...not where they are now.

Not trying to argue but I have video somewhere of a bear biting the bark of off a tree testing it with one of my trail cams.

Hunting the Monroe Unit myself and haven't seen any peels...heck, I've only seen a few scat piles and they were all old.

Don't know where you're hunting exactly but you've documented way more sign than I'm seeing... :dunno:

No peels, but they are out and about.  Had a local bear get into my trash cans, once last week and again yesterday.
