Montana Surplus Licenses
« on: May 01, 2014, 04:59:46 PM »
They sure are doing a lot of advertising on the Outdoor Channel, I'm curious to see how many extras they have this year. Inflated prices, declining deer herds, not a good combination.

Surplus licenses go on sale May 5th.

Best Warden's I have run into.  I have run into one each time I was in Montana.  They will shake your hand every single time and aren't poking their nose all over your truck or "fishing" with their questions.  One even extended his had while I was in the process of skinning my buck.

One time I was checked in Washington and the Warden asked me to cut off my tag which was electrical taped on, then handed the tag back to me (when he was done) to put back on the animal.  In Montana, the Warden cut off the tag himself then went back to his truck, grabbed some tape and taped it back on himself while I kept skinning.  He didn't have to do that, but he did.....

I made sure to call in to their main office with his name, just to let them know how professional I thought that he was.

Interesting, I actually thought the Big Game and Elk Combo numbers would be higher.

When I've hunted over there the Wardens have been just as nice helpful as they are on the show.

I talk to a couple of them every year over there, I've had the same experience.

When filming over there a "Homeland Security Officer" messed up and shot 2 goats. We packed everything out and explained the situation to the warden, he told the Hunter to take the Goat of his choice (both over 9.5") and meat, take the balance of the meat to the local food bank, put the other Cape and horns in his freezer as he wrote us a $125.00 ticket and said he understood and Thanked us for be honest.... I LOVE MONTANA!
