Arrow Flight
« on: May 02, 2014, 08:54:23 AM »
I have a buddy that sighted in his bow at around 400 feet in Nevada when he came back to Washington he is shooting high.  So the question is does altitude affect arrow flight?

I dont see that affecting arrow flight that much maybe like 1/2" depending on how high up he is now. I shoot at 1000 ft and have gone up to 6k and really noticed no diffferance that was worth playing with my sight. If its more then 1/2" Id look toward something moving in transit being the cause of the arrow hitting higher

i wold guess the bow got banged around in transit a little and the sight might be off.

Temperature, altitude, humidity swings of significant proportions will affect POI.

Did you mean 4000ft or 400ft ???????  If it was 4k and now hes at sea level on Whidbey, could be noticeable difference.

I think if anything it would be the other way around.  He would shoot low here.

He should check his timing. Heat and humidity will move strings around if they're not a premium string material.

No, altitude will not affect it to any great degree.  Check string/cable stretch, or as mentioned a bump to the sight.

I have hunted up to 10k feet and never noticed a difference, even when I sighted in at 800 feet above sea level.

Prolly had his bow upside down....shooting 400-500 yards aswell  :chuckle:

Jokes aside no it's not the altitudes fault, altitude does affect everything but it's gona be a incredibly  small amount in typical archery ranges
