Cowlitz fishing
« on: May 05, 2014, 08:10:03 AM »
I had to take some vacation so I went fishing on the Cow...

There were at least 6 people drift fishing.

Two folks come up with bobber's and cast into the mix.  A drift fisher guy gets a fish on and yells fish on.  The bobber guys left their stuff in the hole and soon there is a big mess as the both bobber's are hung up with the fish and the drift fisher looses a fish.  A little yelling happened and that is understandable

Then a bobber guy goes to the top of the drift and long leads his bobber just to piss the guy off who lost the fish and yelled.

What is wrong with people?  I should have took a break and got my cell phone and posted the picture on here as it might have made me feel a little better.

I am done venting

Sounds like a typical day at Blue Creek.

That's exactly what you should expect when fishing for salmon at a terminal area.

i have been down to blue creek a few times in the last month, and odds are the drifter was just another damned snagger/flosser anyways. i have only seen maybe 5 fish caught with a hook inside the mouth out of maybe 20 or more, and three of those fish were mine. ive seen atleast 30 fish snagged that broke off.  it just kills me to see the same, i'll just say older gentlemen there everytime, talking about fisheries management, and practices, yet there they are snagging away with there two hooks, tiny corkie and 11ft or longer leader at the mouth of the creek. They kinda make the Russians look good sadly. Those bobber guys are about the only ones out there not snagging, lol

I'm not sure why anyone would feel the need to try and floss Springers, especially in the Cow. Throw some good eggs out there and if you get it in front of one, it's probably gonna bite.  :twocents:

I've fished the Cowlitz twice in my life, once from a boat and once from the bank.  I will never fish that river again no matter how good the run unless it is on private land away from the idiots!  The bank experience was as close that I have ever come to puling a gun on someone while fishing.

I stopped fishing at Blue Creek about 18 years ago due to all the above mentioned experiences. No Bueno.

That's right around the last time I was there too. And I used to be a regular. First few times my brother brought me there you could drive to the creek mouth and cross on an old car body to get to the hole. I recall about 2 groups of fishermen with maybe 5-6 guys besides us. Over the years it got gradually more crowded, but most had decent manners and were civil toward each other. Then it got ridiculous. Last time I was there I got there early. Caught a fish before daylight. By the time I could see there were guys packed on all sides, including two standing on the bank above me casting directly over my head. I think I left about 7:00am, and haven't been back since.
