What has this world come to?  If the bills are paid, the kids are clothed, there is food on the table, there is a full tank of gas in the car, and there is a plan in place for retirement...it's time to put pants on when you get up in the morning. ;)

Reminds me of my grandfather.  He went out and bought a tractor and the neighbor came over for a look.  The neighbor tells my grandfather, "I can't believe your wife let you buy this!"  "Let me buy it!", he exclaimed, "I don't know about you but I keep my balls in a sack down stairs.  Not in my wife's purse!" :chuckle:
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

Separate money works great, 26 years of 100 % freedom from such tragedies of this type.

Naw, pass on the gun.

Then later, let it eat at you. Blame her. Develop a deep seated hatred for her for micro-managing your every move. Let these wounds fester. Bring it up later every time you see her packing new shoes or a new blouse home. Argue. Yell. Tell your friends. Let this tear at your guts for years. Let your blood pressure rise. Let your stomache acid rip a hole through your intestines. Finally, realize how much she does not love you, how you would do better apart. Get an attorney. File for the divorce. Fight it out in court, pad those attorneys pockets with your hard earned cash. Sell your other guns to help pay for the attorneys. Move apart in perpetual acrid disgust.

Or, you could just buy it and preserve your marriage. Tell her you did it for her.

Great idea! Hey honey, Here is your mother's day gift...it's a slightly used Remington 700 stock. What? No its not really broken I can patch that up with some Gorilla glue and a couple of strategically placed dowels.  No I didn't buy you a whole gun cuz money is kinda tight you know?

Bam you got yourself an action worth at least a few hundred and wife gets a fabulous gift while thinking you saved money. You might want to pick up a small bouquet of flowers to go with the used stock just in case she doesn't appreciate all of the thought and love you put into her real gift.

Okay in all seriousness as a sportsman and gun owner you owe it to this poor abused and neglected rifle to make sure it gets placed in a loving home. If you aren't able to buy it the least you could do is make sure it is placed in the care of someone that will appreciate it (that's me). I will give you $25 and the current neglectful owner the asking price of $225. You get $25 that I guess you can give to your banker (the wife) and the ability to sleep well at night knowing you saved this gun from a possible future filled with being dropped, broken and allowed to rust and I get a rifled action worth at least a few hundred. Win, win, win.

Just saw that there is a long action bdl stock in the classifieds.  Would that work and hold you over for a while just to get you up and running without spending a lot?
