49 degrees spring bear hunt in progress
« on: May 12, 2014, 10:56:24 AM »
Made it over Sunday night for spring bear hunt, snow up high still can't get from sand canyon rd to calispell side yet at least from over the top, went on a five mile hike no
Bear sign yet, but it sure is beautiful in these parts hope to cut some sign soon.

Been  hunting Huckleberry, seeing all the snow still across the valley in 49. Might have to try some lower elevation areas?

This little pond was the first place to melt out and have fresh sign when we hunted it...

Good Luck!

The bear up above is my buddies that I was hunting with here's a pic of my first turkey shot the same day. I will be heading over this weekend for three days to get my bear. I thought I had a good hit on a really nice 220lb blacky, the bear side buckled and tried to run off, I watched it thinking any second it would drop. Nope it made its way to the wood line and never fell tracked it but blood trail dried up. Should have kept shooting till it was down

Live and learn with bear hunting.  A well shot bear rarely goes much of anywhere.  So if he is still standing consider him in need of more lead!  Nice bird

Oh there will be plenty of those.  But they will be too hung over each morning to cause much trouble before noon :chuckle:

I went through the same thing last year. Got off at 2300 in Everett and headed out. Got to Kelly hill at 630 am and set up camp. Hunted until 10 and went back and took a nap. Shot my bear at 1800 that night and headed home the next day. Good luck and keep it up. It can come together quickly.
