Walleye?
« on: May 16, 2014, 08:11:56 AM »
Looking at taking my dad walleye fishing the weekend of June 21st for a Fathers day trip.  We generally only get to make one walleye trip a year to the eastside.  Trying to determine where to go and make some camping reservations.  I know the walleye fishing is good right now on Moses Lake and Potholes.  Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on whether it will still be good in in late June?  Debating on that area or heading up to Banks Lake and trying that.  Last years trip we went to Banks about the same time and didnt do very well.  Any info would be much appreciated!

In my experience the walleye bite become sporadic on Moses Lake/Potholes in the early summer due to all the baby fish that are in the lakes at those times. The bite can/will be hot at times but then it will turn off just as quick because there is so much available food. However the bass fishing can be excellent. If it were me I'd go prepared to do both. I heard Banks Lake is poised to bounce back after the big draw down but I haven't been up there to fish it in a couple years. I'd do the Potholes/Moses thing.  :twocents: Good luck! Enjoy!

Yup.  I'd be ready to run cranks on rocky shoreline for Smallmouth if the Walleye arent cooperating.  Moses and Potholes put out good Walleye and Bass all summer long, but after the spring the bass are center stage.

Appreciate the info mfowl and teal.  I was leaning toward moses/potholes so think we will plan on that

Depending on the type of fishing you like to do (jig or troll) I would recomend Roosevelt over the other walleye lakes.  Pulling worm rigs that time year is very effective on any of the flats in the main lake from FT Spokane to Kettle Falls, for lots of eaters.  Once you find them you can target them with jigs if that is your thing.

I generally prefer to troll.  Hadnt given much thought to Roosevelt, figured it would be a bit harder to locate fish than moses or potholes

It could be good still in late June. This has been one of the best years of late for walleye at potholes and I've heard Moses lake is doing really well also. Alot of smaller sized fish then what we've been use to in years past at potholes but the amount of fish is more.
