Removable antler mounts

What are the advantages/disadvantages  besides being easier to transport a trophy mount

Advantage - Easy transport and you don't need to remove windows or sliders to get them in the house. 

Disadvantage - Once the horns have been cut you can not have them officially measured.

Option - I know a few guys that have the original antlers of significance stored away.  And then they have removable copies made for the mount.

I'm leaning toward getting a mount done with revolvable antlers but before I make the decision figured what better place to ask the question, its seems a little cheesy to me but in some cases like a big bull moose how the heck would it ever fit in the average persons house

I had Charlie do removable on my moose so I could get it through the door and make it easier to get up on the wall. It looks great

Makes sense to me that large mounts would be designed with removable antlers, for ease of transport and mounting on the wall,  especially in the case of shed antlers

It is definitely nice to have removable antlers especially on a monster bull lol.

  Thanks for the info Charles, you cant tell from the pictures that there not permanently attached, out of curiosity from a taxidermists view, on a scale of 1 through 10 rate the stability of a mount done in this fashion verses permanently attached  antlers.

I think so as long as it is not a world record and involved in some controversy.  Though I am not an official scorer by any means.

Seems to me there is a potential world record buck that may or may not be the new world record.  I think the panel has measured it multiple times and there has been pending litigation that may require it to be measured again.  I expect in that case it's all about money and monetary value of the trophy.  If no such value is in dispute I expect once it's official you should be able to do as you wish.

Danderson, the antlers are solid but they do have some movement as the square stock moves or has just a little play in it . If it as too tight the antlers would not slide off the peg. They do sit in the normal spot though. Kind of hard to explain .

Here is that bull I was telling you about on the phone the other day Dave. There is a tiny bit of play in the square stock but you would never know unless you walked up and grabbed an antler.
My best advise is to talk to the taxidermist that is doing the work and make sure that he has done a few and is comfortable doing them. Good luck. Can't wait to see that hog when he's finished.

Charlie is doing one for me too, it will make it much easier to get in the house thats for sure.
