Hmmh. I've been looking around at new threads for this falls hunts myself. While I find the name "attack pants" a bit silly this concept intrigues me. On one hand, they're not Sitka pants that cost $300-400. But OTOH if they aren't rain proof, should I really be spending $100+ on them? I don't live in the rainy wetside of Seattle anymore but i don't a hunt ruined by occasional rain either....

Do you normally hunt in rain gear?

Nope. Plus, I do most of my hunting in drought ridden New Mexico and Arizona these days. Last set of clothes i bought were cheap cotton camo clothes at Sportsmans Warehouse for $15 each and so far they usually work great. But my buddy who had the same trophy elk hunt last year that I drew this year said that it did rain several times on them. Having hunted in Forks in November this brings back bad memories but Arizona is not the Olympic Peninsula so maybe I should just have a cheaper set of rain repellant gear just in case.  :dunno:

Cotton is dangerous for hunting conditions, in my opinion.

I should have been more clear. I was talking about mountain hunting.

Even then...not sure wage your setup is, but even in the desert it can get extremely cold at night. Catch a rain storm before dark with no way to dry first and you are wearing a heat sink.

Plus the smell gets unbearable. :)

Not that you have to spend a ton on gear but I'd look more towards synthetics or wool. Both can be had at a good price if you look around.

I have become a huge kuiu fan over the last few year's, I especially like the attack pants. Recently picked up a set of chugach rain gear that I will be putting to the test on an Alaska trip this fall.

Walked around for an hour yesterday afternoon with 70 lbs in the Kifaru, boots laced up, and attack pants.

These pants fit great.  The side vents are a good idea.

I originally bought the 32's--which fit even better around the hips, quads and butt--but a little too tight around the waste.

I exchanged them for the 34's--which fit snug around the waist--but I wish they were more tight in the aforementioned areas like the 32's.

The material is super soft and quiet.  Worth the $$.
