Stud bear for sure, great story and congrats to the hunter.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

Is it just me or does this guy look like a grizzly? Please note, I've failed the Montana Grizzly Test multiple times :)

In girth!! :chuckle:  But that's about it.  When you see a real live grizzly it's a lot easier than you think.  Though there are the occasional exceptions at a distance.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

Wow! Bear of a lifetime. I agree with Radsav, the kid is ruined, every bear he see's from here on out will look like dinks.
I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not!

I second that
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Thank you all.  It was a great time with grandson and this bear was a special bonus.

I try to get a special hunt or fishing trip with each grandchild about that age, plus as much time camping, hunting and fishing as we can manage.  I was the non-hunting driver and camp cook for several days of archery elk hunting with Jon and his brother last Fall.

Jonathan's Dad got a bear when he was the same age.  He hiked out from our house with his younger brother into the nearby hills and killed a pretty good bear.  I was repairing our pump when they returned and didn't look closely at their hands. After a couple of minutes I said that I had to go to town to get a part.  Jon's Dad then said, "Could we go get my bear first?"

"You got a bear???!!!"  Still a fun memory.
