2014 Montana black bear hunt
« on: May 17, 2014, 07:29:27 PM »
Went black bear hunting in Montana with my brother in law, ended up seeing 2 black bears playing with each other up on a hill. Went after them, took a shot at 215 yards at one of the bears with a .270 win, 130 grain. After I shot the bear, it went up on the tree about 7-9 feet up fell off.I heard some braking branches and I thought its a good sign.  Took us about 20-30 min to get up there to look for my bear, when we saw it there was that second bear sitting on it and started eating it already. We couldn't get it to leave my bear alone. I shot multiple times close to the bear, yelled at it, threw sticks, wouldn't leave, took us another 30 min. just to make him leave so I can get my bear. And than it kept following and stalking us for at least 3 more hours while we carried my bear to the truck. We used up all the pepper spray, shot about 25-30 rounds from .44 mag, 12ga, and rifle, nothing seemed to make it leave us alone! kept reappearing behind us! It was something! Never thought that this would happen to me! Experience of a lifetime! Here are some pics

Awesome!  Congrats!

Sounds like the bears were mating. We had a similar thing with the spring bear I shot last year in WA. Not to the same extent but the other bear didn't want to leave and then a third bear showed up on the scene as well. Too bad you didn't have another tag.

Pretty cool! I was in a tree stand in September, and watched 2 bears chasing each other around like dogs. I think they were siblings that had been booted that year.

Congrats on a great bear and kudos to you for not getting overly excited and shooting the other bear during those three hours. Sounds like you made all the right decisions with the pepper spray and firing warning shots to let it live.
