Complete Pass Thru
« on: May 19, 2014, 12:55:00 AM »
Eurasian Collared Dove @ 25yds +/-. Judo pt. Broadside. Arrow hit perfectly centered. Wing socket. Bird fluttered/ran to the back of my property. Part of a wing was laying on the ground where it was hit. Another part of the wing was still attached to the judo pt or maybe a part of the opposite wing about 20' past where it was shot. Feathers stuck the whole length of the shaft. Even a little blood on the vanes. By the large amount of feathers, you'd have thought I shot it with a shotgun.
It was pouring rain out but I figured it was dead in the corner of my yard under my pigeon coop. I let both of my labs out to make a 'real' fetch. They both got birdy but no bird. A look over the fence and I could see a few feathers so the bird must have gone under the corner of the fence. Tough bird to be still alive with a 1/2" hole all the way thru its body center mass.
By now I'm soaked from the rain and I need to go all the way around my fence so I go in the house and put on a sweatshirt and rain coat. Take the dogs and go aound the fence into the brushy property of the electrical substation next door. Feathers and the dogs get birdy but it's raining so hard I think it washed away any scent while I was getting more clothes. We spent about 20 minutes looking and both dogs kept losing the trail right in the middle of an open field area.
We went back home and waited for the weather to clear. About an hour later it did so I took the dogs back over next door but to no avail. Lost the trail in the same spot each time. I'm guessing a hawk or eagle got it since they've been getting my neighbors chickens on a regular basis right across the fence from this spot.
I was even going to eat it for supper but no dice this time.
That about sums it up for my hunting this weekend. Anyone else getting any shooting in?

No comments from anyone? I figured D Rock or someone would comment on how my Mathews was not enough bow to even kill a bird or RAD telling me I didn't have enough KE for doves, LOL.

Yep, Mathews shooters.  Always making a big deal out of nothing :chuckle:  KE means NOTHING!! ;) ;)

I actually gave up shooting birds and bunnies with judo points years ago.  Too many of those same stories.  Not sure how one single 7.5 birdshot pellet can put them down so dead and a big ole judo just makes them run around.  Old broadheads with an Earle Bateman Adder Point behind seems to work the best for me.

Now if you had Springers or Britts it wouldn't have been such a big deal.  Just need to have the right dog for those hard to smell doves.  Takes one heck of an extended rain storm to shut down a good upland dancer. :IBCOOL:  We take great joy in following up labs in the pheasant and chucker fields.  Though lab owners aren't very good sports about it after a little angry squaw limits on their pass overs :chuckle:

LOL Rad. I knew I'd get some BS sooner or later.
Yeah, those Judo pts suck. My buddy and I shot some geese in the early goose season last year with them. Complete pass thrus with little damage. Hard to believe they can fly away with a 3/8" hole completely thru them and a couple tiny BBs knocks em down.

Well, I don't know if shooting a Hoyt or a Mathews would have changed a thing.  But I do know, had you spent at least $1,500 for the base bow and $350 for the sight, that alone would have made all the difference!  Quit being such a cheap Bass Turd sakoshooter!  :tung:

Ugly is the new beautiful, don't you know :chuckle:  Just wait until I set up my new Bear Agenda.  I think it might put some heat on the carbon pretzel as 2014's ugliest :o  If only it had hubcaps!!

But you are old like me!  The kids at the local archery shop call me "Old School".  Apparently these days you can buy success instead of having to practice and earn it.  Wish someone would have told me that about 30 years ago!

Maybe Cameron Hanes has to validate your warranty card :dunno:  Although, from my experiences Hoyt shooters generally supply their own record class version of bull.!.!.! ;)

When I received the bill for our ugly bows I felt the breath of a Raging Bull and I'm sure I mumbled something about "Oh Bull Sh**!!" followed by a whole slough of other record class naughty words :chuckle:  I'm pretty sure they charged me extra for the hubcaps, the corkscrew strings, the bubbled paint and the flexing rest mount >:(

Wow!  You even got the $400 sight so you can extend it out where the riser should be on a normal brace bow ;)
Though it does look like you replaced the corkscrew string.  You shouldn't even need to leave the house to be successful with that!  Maybe you and the angry squaw should team up :chuckle:

Maybe it would be better looking turned 90 degrees :dunno:

While you're tallying up my bow set up, don't forget the strings/cables. And your prices are a bit inflated.  But I'm glad you like to compare prices of what other people shoot to what you THINK is right or necessary.

Yes, I think I have the best set up possible FOR ME. does it make it better than someone else's bow that didn't cost $1399 plus accessories? No. But it works for me. Thanks for reminding me what I paid for it though, makes me want to get my money's worth and shoot it every day even more

You didn't pay MSRP?  You are special! :chuckle:

I'm hoping this is still a "flip everyone some BS" thread.  Always have to be careful when you flip Hoyt and Mathews guys crap as fun often changes to a hurt ego easily.  So I just wanted to make sure we're still doing the crap flicking thing :dunno:  Sakoshooter was flat out asking for it so it's not a thread jack, is it?

I will have to post pictures of the wife's ugly purple & pink pretzel when it's finished getting set up.  I've been sick the past week with respiratory issues so I haven't wanted to grind on the grip yet. But I'll post 'em once complete.

We are also waiting for the custom Tommy Hogg, since her pretzel is not the Turbo ;)  I'll probably trash the corkscrew string before then too!  When completed we will need to get the two of you together to see who is more awesome  :party1: The two of you together will be like a down payment on a house worth of sweet ugliness.  8)

You had better watch out!  She's tough and mean so she may want to body slam you if you get to cocky!  Think I'm joking?  Just ask Whackmaster or Battleready about that.  Both of them have experience the Angry Squaw wrath a time or two  :boxin:

She hasn't even shot it yet and she is telling me all about the big bull she is going to shoot with it.  She says it's speaking to her, "You have no idea how many big critters we are going to kill together!"  I think this is just the beginning...this is going to get REAL expensive! :yike:  If not all the hunting and gadgets...the future years of mental therapy  :o

been a busy month for me.  Grandma passed away on the 6th.  Then Dad's been battling with some cancer treatment.  He did a round of kimo then had an emergency blood transfusion last week.  That dam leukemia is some bad $h!t.  Plus working 10 and 12 hour days in between.  I need a vacation.  Guess I'll get it in a few weeks at the iron Amos I'll be bringing the trailer down for the weekend.
