What's up with these archery and muzzle only hunts. It's a pretty little area. Are they worth putting in for?

I believe it's at the USAF survival school area.  Small area but there should be plenty of moose around.

I put in for Archery as well.  It is indeed part of the USAF Survival Training Center.  It's an area that's been off limits to hunting for many many years.  I've hunted Tacoma Creek area, in years past, beyond the USAF land.  Lots of grouse, and a couple deer taken from there.  The biggest elk I've ever seen in my life was up there, the day before elk season started, in the mid 90s.

I applied for both archery and muzzleloader. Fingers crossed that 15 points can get me the tag this year! 

I actually wish they would have more archery or muzzleloader tags for the OIL species.  Lower success rates should in theory allow more tags and improved draw odds for those of us willing to take the risk of burning our points.  My dad drew an archery only Umtanum sheep tag way back and I hear stories of that hunt all the time.

Not saying a lot but maybe remove one or two rifle tags per species and translate that into 3-4 archery tags and 2 muzzle tags and then just rotate which units they offer that way. Great way to get more opportunity out there without affecting animal populations.

the whole moose permit crap is just that crap!!!! There should be multiple seasons within units such as Sept archery tags, Oct/Nov rifle and muzzy tags. Also increased tags! the hucklberry unit is a joke what they give out for tags

 Only reason success rate would be lower is if someone missed their shot, walking up to them is certainly not difficult.

Very true!  Of all the moose I've seen in several of he NE units, and that's A LOT, it's very easy to get within 15 yards of most of them.  Maybe not very bright, but very easy.

If I draw any of the permits the bow is the first thing I'm grabbing. Yea the girlfriend and some of the family may not like but hey if it's my time it's my time. I would much rather go out fighting tooth and nail with any wildlife.

Their vitals are no different than elk or deer, one properly placed shot is no different in either of them.

Except that the vitals are larger, resulting in a larger area to properly place an arrow.  Should mean that a moose would actually be easier to kill than a deer, except that an arrow has a better chance of penetrating a shoulder blade on a deer, than a moose, if the shot is poorly placed.

Correct, at 30 yards all 5 of my pins were on vitals, I only had to get my windage right.

Most moose stories I read are one runs across road and then it gets shot, Id love to read any good moose stories with archery gear if anyone has one. Can't get enough talk about moose!
