Youth license problems?

So looking for input on a problem I had trying to buy my 9 year old step sons hunting license last night. First off he hunted last year with his dad and had a license so he should have been in the system, however when I put in his social security number last night it said customer not found and prompted me to set up a new wild Id and profile for him. His dad did not have any of last years stuff so I went ahead and set up the profile. When it got to the items to purchase there was no option for a hunting license or special hunts except moose sheep and goat. I went ahead and bought those so it would assign him his new wild Id. I assumed it would update after and let me go back in and buy his hunting license but it didn't and I can still not purchase his hunting license online in order to get his other special permits put in. Any thoughts?

The first time buying a hunting license requires proof of having passed a hunter education course. So if you had used his WILD ID number from last year you would have been okay. You probably should call the WDFW in Olympia and get this straightened out ASAP. Call 360-902-2515 and do it early because they will be very busy answering the phone today.

You cannot purchase a hunting license for anyone born after 1/1/1972 who has not provided physical proof of hunter education. Going to a license dealer without proof will not work.

You must either find his WILD ID that was used to previously purchase a license (which establishes that he did in fact pass hunter education), or provide proof of hunter education completion.

It is possible that he hunted last year with a hunter education deferral.

Did he receive his hunter education certification card? It's orange. With that, you are golden. If not, you'll have to order another, I believe.

The education deferral is not the likely culprit here.
(1) He doesn't meet the age requirement
(2) You must fill out an application
(3) There is approximately a 2 week turnaround time for the forms to be processed
(4) If he did get a deferral, he would have had to purchase his license directly from Olympia

Got it all worked out. Talked to wdfw and they refunded and cancelled my purchase from last night. They were able to find last years info off looking up his name. His dad had not set his profile up with his social security number on it so that's why I could not find him in the system. Its all updated now and hes been put in on all special apps.

I did not get a social number until the age of 14 when I was finally able to apply for one at the post office.  Are they assigning them at birth now?   Sorry I don't have kids so I don't know.

I guess they would need to in order to create anchor babies, wouldn't they?  Interesting!

I also had to go to the post office to sign up for the draft when I turned 16.  Do kids have to do that these days or is that a thing of the past too?

You are probably remembering correctly,  they are not assigned automatically.  I didn't get mine until I was 16 and wanted to get a job.

I noticed something too. When I try to enter online to submit apps it will not recognize his social security # as I don't believe it was a requirement when I purchased his license. It would only recognize the option if I used his wild id #. I was able to submit just fine with this. Just go to a local license sales location and have them look it up. Most likely he now has 2 wild id #'s as he had his original one and the one you set up. I know this is possible as they did this with my son also. My son had a wild id last year for his fishing punchcard but they gave him a different # this year on accident after he passed his hunters safety course. I just need to make sure to only use the correct wild id # from now as only one of them has the info he passed his hunters safety.
