antler growth pattern
« on: June 05, 2014, 02:57:59 PM »
The eye guards begin to take their shape before the 5th and 6th points are fully developed. Then the 5th and 6th start to bloom. Do the lower antler points continue to grow or is this a  two stage process? (i.e., the 1-3 points develop fully, then the 4-6 develop). I have some that have great main beams and the eye guards look decent so far, but I'm wondering if they're going to continue to pack on inches  :dunno:

Example: Hajj here has decent eye guards, but is not a shooter in my book when judged by them. Will his G1, G2s continue to grow as the 5 and 6s develop?

All the bulls I'm watching are flat tops with just three points, but if I was to guess I would think those three would be developed completely before any other points start to branch out.

Bean Counter, that is an excellent question, and I am curious to know the answer.  Are there any game biologists on this forum?

By the way, that guy is skinny.  You need to be laying out some bacon grease-flavored Wheaties for him.

I have watched a lot of bulls on cam grow from nubbins to full growth and I have noticed, for the most part, that they grow there fronts up until their 4th's first and then from there, it seems to grow evenly between the swords, tails and fronts. Hope that made sense and I am no biologist but have watched a fair share over the past few years.

Hmm.. bacon

I dumped out a second 50 pound bag of salt for him and his buddies. Keep an eye on the trail cam forum in a few days and you'll see why next time, I'm bringing back yet another 50 pound bag of salt and a 50 pound block  8)
