Kelly Hill Bear Down May 18th
« on: May 25, 2014, 06:09:07 PM »
Well It was a fast hunt. I setup camp Saturday around noon and waited for my buddy to show up. He showed and we were off for turkey and a bear. I spotted my first one in a clear cut miles away but didn't know how to get there. I radioed my buddy's and Google earth later to find a way in. There was no way there except through a deep valley and miles away. So the next day I was off by my self because my other buddy was hunting bear in 49 unit and the other one had a long range shoot to attend. I went to the same spot to glass and spotted the big boar again. I drove 6 miles down and across the canyon to the gate. hiked in over 3 miles and through a canyon to the clear cut. Half way there the big bear was gone but 2 other bears came out. A blonde and a black one so I had a new hit list. I walked right up on the road the bear are feeding off of. The shot was around 80 to 100 yards and I shot the black one because the blond one rubbed and was a little smaller. As I packed her out I ran across a saw and two cubs 20 yards away on the dirt rd. I yelled at her and she stood up 3 times before running away. wow my legs hurt getting her out by my self. The steep canyon is what killed me and then the heat came. LOL We seen between 49 Deg. and Kelly hill over 30 moose, 2 wolfs 12 bears, lots of turkey, a hole lot of grouse.
