80's Tide Runner
« on: May 25, 2014, 07:38:21 PM »
So I have a line on an 80's Tiderunner but it may have some Transom rot. Reading on some of the other forums it is to be expected, but can be pretty damn expensive. 16footer with a 70 hp motor on it. My buddy was on the boat 6 months ago in the sound.

I don't know much about boats, except I want one for fishing and crabbing (this one seems to fit the bill) and I also know that I will be happy when I sell it. I am aware that should I choose to get this particular boat, or any boat after it for that matter, that I will instantly realize that it is 2 feet too short.

So, other than the obvious cost of the Fiberglass transom and the fact that I will hate owning a boat, anyone out there in the hinter lands have any experience with older Tide Runners? Thanks!

Tide runners are decent enough for an older boat but I would stay away from anything with a rotten transom.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

I have a 17' Olympic with a 75hp E TEC listed here and on CL. I tore the old transom out and replaced with laminated/glassed inch and a half mahogany plywood, better than brand new. I've used it up at Neah Bay, Westport, Willapa Bay and all over Puget Sound.

I also had an 18 foot cuddy awile back. Great rough water boat. Ran it in the sound, Bouy 10 and the ocean. Never had a problem. Having said that take the advice of the folks that posted before me and stay away from rotten anything on a boat.
