Shot a beautiful chocolate bear last night in Idaho. As expected, he died on a nasty hillside and I had to quarter and pack him out. The hill side was dirt and a great wrestling mach ensued while skinning the bear out. As a result, there is dirt on the hide inside and out, and it still needs to be fleshed out.
My questions are...
What should I do with the hide before taking it to the taxidermist?I want the hide tanned w/ paws, not a rug. Should I try cleaning it up myself? I was able to get everything cooled quickly. I took my time skinning it so I think my cuts are fairly accurate.
Any taxidermist recommendations for the Spokane area?
Thanks!
