I'm pretty sure that's a first gen frame, Josh. What did you pay for it, and what bag did you get?

$275 with a 6k and a 3k bag.

That's a great deal. It sounds like most of the frame issues are from setting a loaded pack down too hard on the frame. I bet it will last you a long time if you are just a little careful with it. My buddy had a gen 3 and loves it.

I'll be careful with it for sure. If it breaks, it breaks I guess. I can always get another frame and I'll have 2 good bags either way. Thanks guys.

Sorry for the belated thread jacking, but can anyone the difference between the ultra and the icon? It just seems as if the ultra is without all the pickets... Frames the same?   Has anyone ever hauled out an elk quarter with it?   Thanks.

Both the bags and the frames are totally different between the 2. The Ultra hasn't been available for an elk season to the general public yet as they just became available a couple months ago.

When you decide you don't like that pack, then I'll take it off your hands.  :chuckle:  My buddy just bought the Ultra plus a bunch of extras.  He was right close to a grand into it, but it's a darn nice piece of gear.  I'd be sleeping in the shop if I even asked the wife to pay $275 for a pack, though, so I doubt I'll be seeing an Ultra or even an Icon anytime soon.  My "Go in heavy, come out heavier" motto has worked for years.

I have the new Ultra 6000 and am waiting on the arrival of the 1800.  I returned my 1850 (Icon) for the sturdier frame that comes with the new Ultra.  It is more stout and does not have the tabs on the bottom making it more durable in my opinion.  Less pockets and very streamlined which is okay for me but may push others away.  So far I have logged some miles with a 50lb sandbag on the load shelf and some gear inside and I love it.  Only gripe is the shoulder pads could be a little thicker, lumbar support is good and the load lifters are clutch.  True test will be this September (hopefully).  For both packs (6000 and 1800) with 1 frame/suspension that I can change depending on the hunt and the bow bucket it was less than $500, good deal to me but to each their own.

Its the Gen 1 frame. I have the same ICON 6000. You can get an adapter and Gen 2 frame for it, thinking about doing that myself.
