Hunting gaiters
« on: May 31, 2014, 12:20:00 PM »
I'm in the market to get a new set of winter hunting boots and gaiters.  I think I have decided on the 400 gram  thinsulate kenetrek, but not gaiters. Benn using cabela brand for last 8 years and have been good overall, but the snow balls up on bottom stirrup strap and the buckle broke and is now jimmy rigged together. What do you guys prefer? Do you wear them with your woollies? I'm also looking for a good set of those as well.

I'd personally get the kenetrek gaiters. You should be able to find a site or kenetrek's home site where you'll get a free pair with your boot purchase. I've used damn near ever gaiter, and these are right there in the top ones. They're quiet, fit snug not loose, and have been fairly durable. Worst case, if the buckles strap breaks, sew it on permanently.

Yep- they seem like the best quiet gaiter on the market.  For winter work, with hounds or when noise doesn't matter I only wear OR gaiters.  They are super durable.

I second that, had mine for a few years now and they haven't let me down yet.  I hunt in Northern Idaho and its brushy and wet most the season, these work great!

I picked up a pair the other day at Sportsman's.  They were $60.  I know the website has them for $75 so this isn't a bad deal.

Kenetrek's (carried by Sportsman's) are up there with the OR crocs and come in camo patterns.  Although both seemed more patterned towards a low or mid rise boot.  If you have a boot that covers your calf, you might want to go up a size.

I have both OR and Kennetrek gaiters and they are damn near identical in design.  The OR are made from noisier nylon, the Kennetrek are softer material. Same cut, straps, velcro, buckles, etc.  I would not at all be surprised to find out that OR makes them for Kennetrek.  The only differences are durability and quietness.  Pick one or the other, both work great.

Thanks everybody. Seems to be a hands down decision. I will have to make a trip to sportsman's and  heck em out. Seems that sportsman's is also cheaper on kenetrek boots that kenetrek is as well.

The thing is if you arent in a big hurry for them they run a special where they throw in a free pair of Kenetrek Gators when you buy a pair of their boots. You might call them and ask.
I love both the boots and the gators.
