Creep Question?
« on: May 27, 2014, 06:06:13 AM »
I have a 2009 bear Lights out set at 66lbs.

This weekend i had someone with More archery experience checking my bow out and when he pulled it back he said it felt like it had too much Creep or like it didn't feel like it had the correct let off. Figured it is something id mention to the bow shop next I'm that way. But was wondering if theres a fix for that or if its just a older bow, Or just how id Phrase that to the bow guys to get it fixed if i can. To me i cant tell cause its my first bow and its been that way since i go it, So I'm used to it.

Many more knowledgable people on here than me, and with that said.....
The bear you are shooting has an 80% let off, single cam and probably a decent valley.
If you have a longer draw length than this other person, or the draw length is not proper for either of you then you aren't drawing into the valley.
(If you are lost at this point do some google searches on compound bows etc)

Creep is when on a long hold one loses back tension and you allow the knock to move forward.  Not a good thing as your anchor point is now changed, and if your Bow has a short valley things get exciting.   (Especially if there is an animal in front of you)

Hope this helps.
Old enough to know better.
Young enough to go for it.

He may have been talking about string creep.  And that is very possible as the Lights Out came with 8125 strings.  Plus if those are factory strings it's time for replacement anyway.

The Bear cam used on that bow can function well with a lot of creep.  One of the very nice things about that single cam.  But the 8125 string was absolutely horrible.  Would not surprise me a bit if it had exceeded the length even that cam could contain.  A simple string and cable replacement with one of the more stable string materials available should be very easy.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

:tup:agree, that is probably what he was talking about. If it was in reference to the spongy back wall "creep" such as in a partial let down, you run into static hysterisis,  or loss of performance from a smooth draw and anchor before the shot. This mostly pertains to a velocity loss, which will affect your trajectory. Minimal, but there..

Thanks for all the input, I've been watching my post daily waiting for reply's. I don't have much info on my bow mostly because this is my first bow and it was boughten used. But i was told its a brand new string and have gotten compliments on it saying "its new and a good brand" but don't remember the name off hand. But  i chalked it up as new muscle being used and at times I've wondered if it should be a tag shorter draw length but from what it was when i bought it to now its was closer to my length. I just upgraded to a 5pin sight from a 3 so I'm in the process of sighting it in and loving the upgrade.

My Truth2 bows from that same period came with factory 8125 Winners Choice strings, Green and Orange.  Quite possibly the worst Winners Choice strings ever made.  Mine looked beautiful and new as I watched them creep and spin on an 80 degree day.  Seriously, you could set the bow in the sun and watch it unwind and the peep rotate.  Had been a good string all winter, but that first warm day it must have grown a half inch.  Not sure if that is what you have or not.  Just that is what I had when my Bear bows of that year arrived.

Too bad you are so remote.  A good shop like Rock Creek or Riverside could let you know for certain.  One major tip for newbies:  Never take advise from anyone at the local archery club.  That's like taking medical advise from highschool students.  Or Hunt-Washington ;) - someone might eventually be right, but know-it-alls with very few basic skills or experience love to listen to themselves talk!

Well that sucks. Cause my string is Green and Orange. and i'm already noticing where the string rolls threw the cam and  is wrapped in the black harder material is wearing threw the black material. And was gettN paranoid that when it finally wears threw that it might cause a brake. How much does a decent string go for?

Good strings go for $50 and on up.  I restrung my 2007 Bear Truth and still love that bow. I ordered strinfs from a reputable dealer from an archery forum for $50 and installed myself.  You need a press to install.

Check on archerytalk.com  very active forum, there are a few string Mfg/makers there and a search of forum should get you a bunch of feedback on them..

Vapor Trail strings are great!  As are America's Best and the newer Zebra.  And then of course we have one of the best string builders in the country as a member here on H-W!  Cory at xXx Archery makes a Bad A$$ string    You would need to get the bow to him in a hurry though.  Won't be too long before he gets too busy before season to make them.
