School me on Kayak Fishing.
« on: June 03, 2014, 09:39:55 PM »
So Im seriously wanting to pick up a kayak for some kayak fishing lifestyle.
The one Ive been kinda looking at is the Hobie Quest 11, Hobie Quest 13 or possibly any other Hobie Miragedrive compatible kayak. Cheapest possible one should suffice, I just want something that I can peddle around with when my hands are busy.

School me.

Send "broadhead" on here a message if he doesn't chime in here and see what he recommends.

Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

Smossy, There's an article in Northwest Sportsman, June issue, on kayak fishing. This guy actually catches halibut off of his!

This site is a good local kayak fishing forum to browse. Just look down the board in this link.
Hobies are also great kayaks and you really can't go wrong with one. I really couldn't tell you what size to get. That is more on you.

They actually have a column each month about kayak fishing.  Sometimes more about where, sometimes more about what gear to add to your kayak.  It's all good info and has also made me curious to try it sometime.

So I will chime in here with my  :twocents:

If you plan to fish a lot out of the salt then a kayak is probably the way to go-- especially if you plan on having to paddle a long distance.  However, if you are going to be doing mainly freshwater and also want the flexibility of being able to hunt out of it too... then I would say the NuCanoe!  They are wider and more stable.

I have had mine for a year now and it rocks.  They are also a Washington state company based out of Bellingham so that is good.

Whatever you go with it will definitely help you land more fish.

Have fun!
