Drawn for Idaho Antelope Super Tag
« on: June 06, 2014, 04:59:33 PM »
I have been pretty frustrated the last few years with not getting drawn as a resident of Idaho for Moose. This year was no different with my frustrations, but this time I decided to also put in the for the Moose and Antelope super hunts as well. Putting in for the Moose was a definite but just kinda said "why not?" to the Antelope super hunt. As luck would have it, I was received a call today from Idaho Fish & Game as one of the lucky 4 recipients to get this tag. I am still in disbelief, but now it is time to plan. I went to Wyoming in 2010 and shot 5 Antelope but the buck I shot was an average size. With this tag I can hunt ANY unit, during any season and I am EXCITED! I am starting from scratch with the planning as I have never focused on Antelope in Idaho. I would like to fill this tag with a biggun' just because of the limited opportunity. Since I will be flying in from Hawaii for the hunt I do not really have that much time to scout so I thought I would see if anyone on here has any knowledge or useful information with the hunt. I am fortunate because my mother and sisters live in Boise so now expenses with lodging atleast. Thank you for any help! Scott

I would look at units 54 and 45.  Since 45 is closer to Boise that might be the unit you want to focus on.

Check b&c where the largest have come from. If you look you will see trends. Congrats

:yeah:
but overlook unit 39 it has some good bucks come out of there. As for Idaho in general, not a real good antelope state but there are a few good spot here and there.

39....between I84 & the foothills of Danskin mtn...close to Boise (easily could just stay at your families and hunt within an hours drive...)

I was stationed at Mt. Home AFB and would bum around that area looking at speedgoats.

Congrats on the tag Scott! That whole south west corner has some great pronghorn in it. The south end of units 54, 41 and 42 along the NV border hold some nice heavy bucks especially if you can get in there before the Sept 25th hunt starts. 42 has 200 tags in there I believe and although it is a huge unit (41 & 42) that's a lot of pressure. Good luck!

What luck.   I'd think the hard part of that hunt is already over.   The biggest Antelope I think I have ever seen was in 45.   Goodluck on your hunt.  Very exciting.

Thank you everyone for the advice on where to go. I was hoping to get there in late September but my wife, step-son and I were drawn for Mouflon Sheep on Lanai, Hawaii for October 4th & 5th so that is priority for me. Mama has a score to settle after she missed on several opportunities two years ago and I owe my step-son. We were supposed to go Axis Deer hunting on Lanai a few months ago but I pushed myself too hard boar hunting the weekend before. As the Doctor put it, "I destroyed my body" so she said I could not go so he missed out on it after a promise to take him. I intend to fly to Idaho on October 6th and start hunting on the 7th. I am hoping to find a good buck in the first three days so that I can fly to north Idaho for the start of Elk/Deer season. It is going to be a busy time but I am looking forward to it. Once again, thank you everyone for the encouragement and advice. Scott
