« on: June 07, 2014, 11:51:02 AM »
im new to using trail cameras and need some help. i have been getting good clear images recently of several different animals. im using a bushnell HD trophy cam the camo version. my problem is it will take the picture when the animal is half into the shot :bash: what do I need to change to get the best view of the entire animal.

Maybe move it a little further away. Also set it to take 3 shots each time, or as many as the camera will allow. Better yet, set it to video mode, but that takes up more space on the sd card and will use up the batteries faster. Also, a really big help is to use some kind of bait to get them in front of the camera.

:yeah:  Go to the feedstore, not to Cabelas, and get some salt. Its a ripoff at the spots store, but cheap at the feedstore. 50 pound bags of salt for $6-7 or blocks for a dollar or two more. I have salt in front of all three of mine. After my first month of cams in the field I had more than 10,000 photos  :yike:

I recently moved it from a stump unfortunately I came back to 6000 photos of grass and a bird :bdid: so just to make sure it's ok to have this stuff where I hunt. I'm going for black bear in august and I don't want to put so much out that it's still there come season.

Without bait set it so the animals are coming almost directly towards the camera or directly away. If you've got it perpendicular to the trail you're just going to end up with lots of pictures with only a part of the animal. I like to put mine at a bend in the trail or at an intersection where two or more trails come together.
