Hello Crab Experts! I have a regulation question and I cant seem to find a definite answer to. I was wondering if we are allowed to keep a limit of Red Rock and Dungeness crab in the same day or do we only keep 5 Dungeness or 6 Reds. I'm going to the Nisqually Area 13 and we usually catch both type. I just want to know for sure before heading out. Thanks for the info.

Independent of each other. Limit on one or the other or both. Not a mixed bag limit.

5 dungess and 6 reds per person? Thats a lot of crabs....Heading out now and will post pictures in a little bit.

Crab Report: got to the Solo Point boat launch around 4 PM. Waited for a guy to get unstuck at the boat lunch, his tire was digging in the soft sand with 2 wheel drive. He totally missed the concrete boat launch. 45 minutes later I finally got the boat in the water. Moved to my favorite spot 1/2 mile away and dropped two pots. 45 minutes later I check both pots and they were loaded with red rocks, 4 each pot. I kept 6 then went back to the launch to upload. Loaded the boat up and headed home. I was home by a little past 7 PM, just in time for dinner. Enjoy the pics.

Yum, love the sweet meat of rock crabs, just wish there was more meat in the body/legs.

Went out today after work

, 45 min soak produced 8 red keepers.

Tide was super low today but we managed to pull 10 red with my wife and son, biggest crab measured 8 inches. Did some beach exploring during low tide and saw tons of massive Geoducks. My son manage to find a giant clam on the surface along with a giant sea snail looking thingy. Overall it was a great day off spent with family enjoying the Sound.

That is a great start Mike! Congrats! I am aching to get out there and drop some pots... hopefully this weekend.

I always think that anyone that says they don't like red rock crab have never really tried them.

That thing your son is holding is a Moon snail. Pretty cool. They are edible. But tastless at best from what i hear. If you see those things on the beach that look like a really small tire peeled off its side and are made out of sand. Those are from moon snails.

Are you sure you were seeing Gooeyducks? Maybe horse clams? If gooeyducks thats cool! Those things are hard to find. Usually have to have at least a minus 3 foot tide.

Those red rock crab are delicious. 8" is a monster red rock. Wish they had more meat though.

I will find out what kind of clams they are, next time I'm out. I will dig until I get one. I'll bring digging equipment and will try to bring some home.

The best way I found to get those big horse clams is to find a neck, stick your finger in so it retracts, and then slid a dowel down the hole so you know how deep and where the clam actually is located as they move out in different directions from straight up. I would then dig down next to it and then go sideways to get the clam. This would avoid cutting the siphon off or crushing the shell. I used to get these that were over three pounds on an old-growth clam beach near Shelton.

If you want to catch more crab, use the horse clam for bait, guts and all.

I have been out for week in Seaside, OR. I just completed Rappel Master Course. I promise my son that we would go and continue Operation Crustacean as soon as I return. Promise is a promise so, were heading out tomorrow morning for a couple of hours for some crabs

Awesome day in the Sound with my Son

, We caught 12 Reds in 2 pulls

. We had few friends over for a Turf and Surf Dinner

. I'll post footage of our adventure in a little bit.

Total Crab count for 2014 f: 36

2014 crab count: 61 reds, 0 dungees....will drop 4 pots in Hood Canal on Monday by Twanoh. Anyone went to Twanoh lately? Wish me luck. 8

Wanted to go up that way today to drop pots and fish but, haven't heard how the fishing is in that area so we're skipping it in favor of fishing our local waterway.

Well... My trip to Twanoh at Hood Canal was a total bust today. My son and I had 4 pots, 3 hour soak with 0 keepers, not ideal numbers. I will go back to my Red honey hole and redeem myself tomorrow.

Weather was too nice not to be out in the wate :)r. I took the family out after Church and we were lucky enough to pull 7 Reds today

We picked up 15 today. 30 minutes soak, 35 ft deep in the honey hole. I left the pots overnight so we shall see how that works out. I will pull the pots tomorrow with my family after work.

Went out camping with Family and Friends at Jarrell Cove State Park this past weekend. Did a little bit of crabbing of course. 2 days of Crabbing produced 63 Reds. Total for the Summer season is 210 reds. Awesome year for crabbing.

Nice weather today, took the kids and wife out to the beach to drop some pots. 2 Pulls produced 16 Crabs. Dinner is served.
