Anyone use a LBV setup instead of a daypack for hunting?
« on: June 07, 2014, 08:25:34 PM »
I am in the National Guard and on our last field excersizes I had the idea to get an LBV setup instead of my backpack or fanny pack. I can sling my weapon at low ready to where it can be hands free yet still quick and easy to shoulder. I also like having individual pouches for things rather than having to take off the pack or have everything in cargo pockets and on my belt. I know I can pick up an old BDU LBV for pretty cheap. The only thing I dont care for with keeping my weapon slung like that is I cant keep my binos on the harness on my chest. Anyone try this before?

I use a daypack  (Badlands Super Day) but also use a Safari Sling  and use the bino buddies to keep my binos to my chest while hiking. I like the access the sling gives me for my binos and it's also very quick to draw as it is always at the ready position. Also, with it being in the horizontal position I can keep the glass fairly clean in the wind and rain of the wetside.

Ah, web gear is what us old guys called that. Yours is much better than the crap we had in the 70s. I want one!

My father in law switched to something close to the pic. He just has more stuff tied onto it. I was kind of jealous of his being able to get at most of his stuff without taking off a backpack.

I picked up a Nimrod Pack. Similar to the LBV concept. Very modular and it lets my bow ride on my back rather than carrying in my hand. I got the Pinnacle Pack then added the Gear Pack Bag and the MSR 2 liter water bladder. They have a rifle scabbard for it as well.

So far I have been very happy with the setup. Even when the bottom net broke I just took it to them in Cashmere and the owner fixed it on the spot for free.

I use mine from my military days during turkey season and really like it. It has lots of pockets to hold calls, gps, map, compass, snacks, a camelback, etc. and it's comfortable. Got it at Tactical Tailor in Lakewood
