Beezley 272 Youth deer
« on: June 11, 2014, 07:42:54 PM »
The little brother has drawn this tag, looks like we will be doing some scouting in there this summer. Any starting points would be appreciated!

Lots of state and blm land in the unit.  It is checker boarded so make sure you know where you are at all times.  I would do three things to ensure success.

1.  Get a map that shows blm / state land.
2.  Scout the area so you can find access points and sections of land that look better than others.
3.  While you are scouting if you see a field that holds deer, make sure to stop in and ask the land owner for permission.  It is a youth deer tag so most farmers would probably give permission.  Don't wait for the season to start to ask for permission...you won't get it.  Ask early!!

Good luck and make sure your little brother is a member on here so he can post story and pics of his successful hunt.

I know of a place that is loaded with does. Hunted it both archery and rifle off and on. Plenty of days we would see 50-75 does in one day.

Just returned from a scouting trip in this area. Went well, didn't see a whole lot of deer but it was a pretty hot day so figure they were chilling out. Lots of good area with a mix of Ag fields and sage brush. Hope it isn't too hot next weekend, probably going to have to have a big cooler ready and quarter the pieces if we get one. Did find someones Iphone on a gravel road in the middle of nowhere, it still had half a charge in it and I was able to return it to the owner

Sounds like a good scouting trip.  I am sure the owner of the cell phone is very happy you are stand up person.     I hope the hunt goes well and can't wait to see some pics of the successful hunt.

Spooked some doe into a dry creek bottom, just as the weather was getting sour
