Wind River late muzzleloader

This recruit has no idea. With my work schedule it was all I could manage. This should be fun.

So if anyone has any information on this unit  such as a good starting point I would highly appreciate the assistance. I will be doing my homework but I seriously have no idea. Thanks.

Hey there, I was thinking of checking out this unit too for the late ML season.  Did you have any luck finding out any info?  I think there may be some access up by Trout Lake.  I've been up there camping and fishing but never elk hunting. Maybe we could share whatever info we can find?

If I had the time to hunt I would be looking around the area above the Cheese caves, or Smokey creek around the ATV trails.

Smokey Creek and the ATV trails are in the Lewis River unit not the Wind River.

I've hunted that unit during late ML for 15 years and I've had good luck up the 7000 rd about half way between BZ Corner and Trout Lake.  Just follow the 7000 rd and there are many spur roads off the 7000 rd that have good potential. I've hunted that area for many years and have pulled out a couple of bulls and lots of cows when it used to be any elk during late muzzy especially when the snow flies. If the snow is flying start up high near Monte Cristo and work your way down. I haven't hunted it the past 2 years because of the short season and didn't draw a cow tag.

The 7000 road is over hunted.  There is a camp there that has more people in it then elk in the unit. Good luck around those guys, they have every road tied up. Best odds is to hunt the area around Oklahoma camp or the NW corner of the unit.  Less pressure over there.

We hunted all the areas mentioned, during modern firearm season, didn't see a single elk.

Over hunted means those hunters are pushing the animals around and have them up and moving. If you're talking about the camp at the bottom of the 7000 on the left then thats my camp and we hunted modern this year. There will still be a few from our camp going back down but not all of us.

Wow, you're from that camp?? Good to know.  I wouldn't think anyone from that camp would give up such a "killer" spot, everyone there is pretty tight lipped.  Anyways, the locals have that area pretty well dialed as well.  Have to remember any spot between two towns 15 miles apart get hit fairly hard by the locals.

TheFewTheProud, I've hunted there multiple times in the past without any success, seen a handful of elk but moved to the goose lake area.  Great area over there and the elk seem to be coming back stronger every year.  If I had a cow tag, that's where I would be.   Higher in elevation and closer to the Lewis river unit.  Stick to the area that the roads make a triangle..
