Teanaway Bull Tag
« on: June 12, 2014, 01:23:36 PM »
So, I drew an archery Bull Tag out of the Teanaway unit... With the amount of points I had I didn't think I was going to get drawn! With that being said, anyone know of any good places to set-up camp or any advice for that unit? Been out there before but only spent a few days... Looks like I'll be doing a lot research and spending more time out there!

Around that time a lot of the elk move down to private property.

Very weather dependent by then. Lots of the elk get pushed and moved around and end up on private property.
The hard part about the late tags is scouting because any summer and even early fall scouting only really teaches you the lay of the land because the elk won't be where they were all summer and fall. It is still a good tag and big bulls are around, just have to catch them on public land unless you can gain some access.

Start knocking on doors now.
If there is snow 90% of the elk will be on private property
If its brown knock it down

I put in with a partner, both of us have 13 points and Not Selected! We though we were in for sure.
Good luck it can be a great hunt and a tough hunt.

There was a thread a couple months ago....   some one asking about the tag.

Glen Berry posted pic of a public land bull that nobody would pass...... at least nobody I know.
(Same tag as yours)

You might search for that thread.

Tough tag to fill. Better start door knocking. Just another thread of people putting in for a unit they know nothing about.  :dunno:good luck to you

I would be knocking on doors this weekend.  THis isn't a hunt you just show up for.  Too bad you put in for a hunt you didn't think you would draw.  Congrats on a great tag.  Hopefully people start to realize that with the draw system we have you can draw a tag at any time, points don't mean that much.

Tule, the other white meat.

I have hunted there before for archery... Saw a couple of 5x and 6x while I was out there. I'd admit I don't know the land that well, but again what are the odds of drawing in your first year applying...

Ignore the naysayers that think you should only put in for draw tags for units you know well.

Between my three sons and I, we've drawn 6-7 quality deer/elk tags and a moose tag.

I'd never set foot in most of the areas, but had GREAT hunts.

Heck, I LOVE drawing tags for places I've never been.  It gives me a new place to scout/explore/hunt.

And I got terrific info from people on this site.   I've made good friends and returned the favor to a few folks on here.

My son drew a goat tag for a place I've literally never been this year.   Several people have offered help.

Do get a GPS with the property chip for this hunt.
