Ignore the naysayers that think you should only put in for draw tags for units you know well.

Between my three sons and I, we've drawn 6-7 quality deer/elk tags and a moose tag.

I'd never set foot in most of the areas, but had GREAT hunts.   

Heck, I LOVE drawing tags for places I've never been.  It gives me a new place to scout/explore/hunt.

And I got terrific info from people on this site.   I've made good friends and returned the favor to a few folks on here.

My son drew a goat tag for a place I've literally never been this year.   Several people have offered help.

Do get a GPS with the property chip for this hunt.     

Yea that's what I was thinking! There's something about scouting a new area and doing a lot of research that's exciting and I don't mind asking for the info. It's not like hunting season starts tomorrow, but the planning does... Good luck on the hunt!

Just out of curiosity how many points did you have Sccrking11?
 I put in with a partner, both of us have 13 points and Not Selected! We though we were in for sure.
Good luck it can be a great hunt and a tough hunt.

Honestly, this was the first year I applied... Got lucky!

wow.  I had 11 points for the same tag and no dice.  I was beginning to think they don't actually draw anybody for the tag.  Good luck!

Best advice I could give for scouting is to go up during rifle season and do your scouting and talk to guys letting them know you drew the archery late bull tag there. In the couple of weeks that separate between rifle and us bow hunters the elk will roam around however the big big bulls will usually hang tight in their area unless pushed by heavy snow fall. The only thing with this tag is that the bulls are not in the summer range. Even in rifle season they aren't anywhere near where they will be come late tag time. The only scouting you will get done is the lay of the land. Once again good luck

Nope wasn't me. Everyone thinks I'm the game warden.  Hahah I have a f150 crew with the snowmobile in the back. I'm still searching for a bull. I got within 60 yards of a 6x7 yesterday.  But one stick broke under my foot as he was bedded and he jumped up and ran away.  Only was 23 bulls yesterday

Most but not all. Got into bulls on DNR land quite often

Sorry for the late reply. I ended up leaving 2 days before it ended. The last day I was there it was so foggy I couldn't see anything. Only ran into wolf tracks. So I called it a season and went home. Was a great hunt saw lots of bulls. Biggest bull I saw was a big 10x10. Most bulls were on private ground. I got to chase quite a few on state and DNR land. With an archery tag it's tough. I saw one herd of about 100 cows that had 7 small bulls in it. But for cows that herd amd one small one of about 12 was all I saw. Met alot of great people. I want to thank Bert from teanaway ranch for all the help and Jim the owner of the Buffalo ranch. They were alot of help. Even though I didn't get anything I had a great time. Even got to see some nice bucks. The buck with the 5 in  forked drop time was Probly the biggest one i saw. I have pics but I can't get them to download on here off my phone.

sorry to hear that thet definitely have some good bulls they just know where to go where there safe  on private sound like you had good time though

Thanks for the update, archery is a tough game and not having access to the private land makes it even tougher.  Fog was terrible over there seems like for all of the seasons it wreaked havoc at least a day or two.  At least you saw some nice animals.  If everyone that had a tag killed one they would give out less tags, they figure not everyone is going to fill their tag you just ended up on the wrong side of the statistics, it is still hunting not killing.
