"Total agree AK, I will venture to say that the majority of mature blacktails are living in areas where you can't clear cut/ log."
Sundance, you mean you can't clear cut/log because it's private/protected land, too steep or what? I've been looking around an area that has very little mature forest but a mixture of older and newer cuts, reprod, and some areas of mixed evergreen/deciduous trees but not at all large. I'm seeing plenty of deer including bucks I'd be thrilled to take, and plenty sign that large bucks are remaining in the area through hunting season. I just haven't figured out where they're feeding after they abandon the dried-up clear cuts. And I've scouted my arse off (which isn't a problem because I think the homework is just as fun as hunting season).
Special T, I know Boyd is correct and I read that book like the Bible (actually much more). Nevertheless, not until the end of rifle season and also late buck am I seeing bucks and the appearances seem pretty random, not in the spots where I've decided to hang a stand.
