Preference on arrow/broadhead combinations
« on: June 21, 2014, 11:24:13 PM »
Hey I've just recently had some bad luck on some arrows I got and wanted to know what you guys use for the "killer combo" I'm going on an archery elk hunt so I want a durable arrow but I'm also an avid Black tail hunter and would like to take a 50 yard shot or more and still have enough momentum going to do some damage. I shoot a Bow madness 3g at 65# draw back with a 28.5 inch draw length. I'm getting a ripcord drop away rest and a new bowstring to replace my factory one. I'm using a nock loop with release. I've read reviews online but there all funky whitetail people and wanted some reviews of Washington bow hunters. I'm not necessarily a "speed freak" when it comes to arrow speed but I don't want a lead stick to shoot either. price isn't really an issue as long as its not a ridiculous 150 bucks for 6 arrows. Any info is appreciated any suggestions on gear I would rather use is helpful to.  :)

I shoot Easton FMJ 340's with G5 broadheads.  I find them durable and the down range penetration is awesome.  They are a little heavier but my bow is quieter and arrow flight is awesome.

Huh thats kinda funny to me the arrows i had bad luck with were the fmj arrows. but i think i had a bad batch or something beacause the fletchings started to come off. The end of the arrows would mushroom and finally split down the middle. Which i found was  really weird because all the reviews on them were so good  :dunno:. I like the concept of the arrow and the penetration was incredible when they worked , i think ill try them again just to see though. I haven't tried the g5 brand yet but always wanted to ill take a gander at them. I'm also thinking because of the factory arrows ill just do them my self and get a helix jig and just get shafts.

I shoot Carbon Express Maxima Hunter 350s with Slick Trick 125s.  If the arrows are mushrooming or splitting there is something serious going on with that batch of arrows or your shooting into something too hard.

That is what I was thinking to crunchy.  I shoot straw bales at the range and block target with broadheads.  No problem with the vanes either.  Only arrow issues I have had is contact with other arrows.

That poundage and draw length you could shoot ACC 360's with a shuttle T. Excellent combo. I fletch mine 4 fletch with AAE Max hunters. I shoot 371's , but they would be a little stiff for your draw length. I pulled a X10 of my wifes out of a target at Redding by the fletch with a leatherman. Vane and arrow were perfect. They stick great with Max Bond. No prep neccessary.
