Revolver Reblue Source
« on: July 04, 2014, 04:36:14 PM »
I just came into a 4" Ruger Security Six, mfg. date 1973, serial 150-XXXXX. I purchased from original owner who put exactly 39-rounds through it. He included the box of Federal's he bought with the gun. 11 rounds left -- price tag on red and black box is $7.05! The revolver is rust free. However, it has a lot of holster wear. The holster was a sloppy fit and the rig has bounced around in his truck (s) for 40 years.

I see on Ruger's website that they will polish and reblue a revolver for $130 plus $30 return shipping. Does anyone have experience with this service by Ruger? Good deal? Any suggestions for a local source to polish and reblue? I'm in Pierce County.

Thanks

New Ruger bluing is for rust prevention not a beautiful finish, or to be plain, Ruger bluing sucks. A good polish and blue job is spendy, and worth it. Look at a 1950 S&W or Colt, that is bluing. If you want to protect your gun, there are many coatings much better than bluing. If a custom blue job is what you want it will cost because it is labor intensive to get the surface polished.

I have successfully used the Birchwood Casey re-bluing kit on one pistol and 4 rifles. It work well, is easy to use, and the results are terrific if you pay attention to the process. It's also very inexpensive.

Hands down, Fogle's...
http://www.foglesgunsmithing.com/

Gonna run you $265 for the gloss blue finish plus shipping, the high luster stuff you see on a Weatherby Mark V Deluxe.  In fact, they reblued my Weatherby Mark V Deluxe that belonged to my great uncle.  Fantastic service and Loren Fogle is great to deal with.  They willbe getting more of my business in the future.  FWIW, he also refinished the stock on said Mark V with a satin finish (not gloss, but that was an option), and attached a new Pachmayr pad as well.  Rifle looks brand new.  Truly proud to own it.

Check out their pics!
