You might also consider going traditional.  If so, I'd suggest a Lyman Great Plains Rifle as one of the best and most available off-the-shelf rifles you can get today.  You can get either a round ball or conical bullet twist rates (or both barrels if you want) and either percussion or flintlock.  It "may" take a bit more shooting and practice to get proficient, but may also just change the way you look at hunting.  Just a thought.
