Oh well they happen to be a favorite target of mine just cause I seem to get alot of them.

And always being hungry they'll empty 2 of those 4 cup feeders in a day, sure hope sugar don't go up to much .

This is a male calliope and are by far the most prevalent that come around.

This is a Blackchin and for some reason I sure have a hard time getting a good shot him but this one came out pretty nice.

Nice! I have a humming bird feeder out. I have lots of them in the area. I only see one about once a week at mine.  Should I go sweeter or not so much do you think?

1 cup sugar to 1 cup H2O. You only really need to color the water the first time for them to find it, but it must be cleaned and changed regularly, like every week. Dirty feeders or feeders with wasps in them will make them go away.

We use 1 sugar to 3 water.  When the Calliopes are migrating thru they'll empty the big feeder in a day, but they only seem to be in the area for a couple of weeks.  Blackchins are around all summer.  They are fun to watch when they get "sword fighting" and doing their power dives.  Can't sit on the deck in anything brightly colored or  they come screaming in so fast you don't think they are gonna stop.

That's the ratio we use also, 3 to 1.  Black Chins and Rufous throughout the year.  They're draining 5 large feeders every 4 or 5 days right now.

Good to know. That was the recipe for simple syrup when I tended bar. I was told it's the same. Thanks. I'll save some sugar!

My mix is 4-1, 1c boiled, cooled off h20 and 1/4c. sugar. Been that way for years and we have residents that stay year round. Maybe better Google it and see what the right recipe is. If it's too sweet you'll kill the little guys.

3:1 ratio here too.
The Mrs says she's running thru a gallon and half a day and has been since mid-May.  She spends an hour an evening just refilling the milk jugs to reload the feeders in the AM. 
She has 6 feeders out and everyone of them is standing room only in the last hour of daylight.  She thinks we have at least 3 dozen of the little hummers visiting.
We had a male and female Rufous that stayed here this past winter.  That was a first.  She went out and bought a heated feeder.
