Copalis bears during the fall season

Some of my family drew the Copalis spring bear tag.  It turns out it is tough like everyone says.  We saw a bear and plenty of sign.  It certainly appears that there are a fair amount of bears there.  Is hunting better in the late summer and fall?  Are there food sources that concentrate them more?
