Drew 2 tags in Alaska
« on: June 23, 2014, 09:09:22 PM »
I drew 2 tags in AK this year. 1st for bull caribou in Unit 20A and 2nd one for elk bull on Etolin island in Unit 3.Dates I'm going Aug 28th to Sep 7th for caribou and Oct 16-26 for elk. I am going solo, but if anyone wants to join, it would be a more fun trip. For caribou hunt, you can take up to 3 black bears, 1 bull moose, plus 5 wolves on general harvest ticket (subject to tag fees). For elk hunt, you can take up to 2 Sitka blacktail deer on general harvest ticket. You must be in top physical shape, especially for the elk hunt as it's considered the most physically challenging hunt in the state. PM me if interested.

Elk hunt is most physically demanding? Really? I'd think the Dall Sheep and Mountain goat would get top billing for that! Good luck on the hunts man!

Sounds like some good medicine for them  I have a lot of stories about them calming kills. One note I remember reading in a article was to pack a collapsible tent pole with a big orange or red flag on it. It is light and after you make a kill. You can put it threw the rig cage and meat that is left. That way when you come back if the flag is down you know a bear has probably been on it or is still there.

Very cool adventure ahead of you! After reading the article on the link you provided I can see why you took the challenge. If I didn't have do much going on I would offer to go along to help. Good luck and be safe!

Very cool, sounds like an adventure. I'd love to tag along on something like this as I see it in my near future, but not gonna be able to make it happen this year. Look forward to seeing how you do, I know those elk hunts can be killer!

If I didn't have dogs to care for I'd be all for helping on this hunt. Remember to post results of how the hunt goes, and take lots of pics!

If you're flying in make sure your pilot will take solo hunter's. Some won't. Have fun.
