DONT KNOW BEAR HUNTING
« on: June 24, 2014, 08:30:08 PM »
WELL I DONT KNOW A THING ABOUT BEAR or hunting the awesome creatures, but ill be darn if I'm not right up close and personal with a brute were I just got access to hunt for deer and elk,i set my cam up on a well worked trail, left it there  for 17 days and then made the hike in to check film and batteries,i had a very exciting pic review but no elk,but what there was is four different deer ,a four year old moose face right in the camera ,really cool shot, and what I thought to be asmall black bear or at least that's what I thought till I got home and put the film on the puputer, jicker box yoogle machine !!!,this is a very large animal,i guess what my questions to you folk that know stuff about stuff is am I safe to hunt this area ? and when in the heck is bear season and who owns a bow and hunts bear, ( SUCEESSFULLY ! ! ),I gotta Admit I'm a little intimidated by him,I've hunted all my life of 56 years and still find this critter in my thoughts about my new spot, the neighbor next to me showed me pics of 15 elk at his back door 4 weeks ago and I'm seeing a lot of signs of my life time quest with a bow,I've got a large area so I really don't want to give it to Mr. black bear, any advice is ( GREATLY ) APPRECIATED !! BELIEVE ME :chuckle: :chuckle: :bash: :bash:,i WOULD LOVE TO POST MY PICS BUT IM PRETTY MUCH PUPUTER ILLITERATE,SORRY GUYS :sry: :sry: :sry:

Turned around and there he was 40 yards behind me frozen looking at me.. two seconds later i sent a muzzy straight through his chest.  He turned around and ran straight down hill like a bat outta he.....well u know

As long as you aren't baiting the area with anything hunt that bear.  If you are putting bait out for the deer and elk and that's why the bear is around then I wouldn't recommend it.  But you don't have much to worry about hunting the area, the bear won't bother you unless it has cubs with it, then it might get defensive.  I have been within less than 10 feet of a bear cub and the sow ran off so fast she left her cubs behind at the other end of the clear cut.  It wasn't exactly what we were expecting, but it could have turned out worse.

Yes, the bears will eat anything. Any food a human puts out will attract the bear no mater what your intent was.
Shoot the bear, gamster finds out, he investigates, questions you, He smiles alot while talking to you, and seems very friendly, but he is just building a case to send to the prosecutor. Sounds harsh but that's how it works.

I sent you a private message to see if we could walk you through posting a picture off the trail camera.
If you're able to get the pictures up on your computer then you should be able to post them on here too, only a couple of steps to get them on this web page.

For the bear,  odds are fantastic you'll never see it while hunting deer and even more fantastic the bear won't just run away if you did bump noses.

just shoot it and donate the meat to me. I love bear meat as long as it's not a dumpster bear.

had the same thing yesterday went to check camera and bear decided to try to eat it.  got good photos put 9 inch lag bolts through the case of camera so people dont take it and bear had a hard time getting it off the tree.  switched to video mode so hopefully get a clip of him doing this.  tree stands are going up tomorrow hope to get the same bear.

ALLLLLRRIIIIGHTTTTYTHEEEEENNN !!!I MOVED MY GAME CAM TO COMPLEATLY A DIFFERANT SPOT AND,!!My cam is nearly torn off the tree,    Yep, they will do that. I've had once cam destroyed by them. Get a good box for your cam. I've got nothing but bear all over my record rack for deer and elk ,I've pretty much decided on getting a bear tag,as you have already read ,I don't know bear hunting a few of you that do gave some interest in what I have going on,if anybody is so inclined I would love some bear smart partner to participate in this with me you do the shooting I do the shooting or both or one filming one shooting this really sounds exciting,as long as I'm well educated,i also don't completely understand the regs. on this eather, there is a eastern A /B NEED THAT EXPLAINED ALLSO Are you referring to the east/west restrictions? Two bears total per year. You can shoot two in the west or one east and one west. You just can't shoot two east side bears in one season., antway I have a lot of bear where I'm at and this is no bull, which by the way,I've seen no pics of at all, except the ones the farmer down the road showed me,that's what I'm desperately after for my fith year on the bow, Would love to get one with my bow also.came as close as it gets twice but no shot,so I'm ready to maybe go after these black critters that eat everything I leave out If you are still baiting the deer and elk I'd think twice about hunting these bears. Considering baiting restrictions could cost you pretty heavily if you shoot a bear over bait. ,these guys are coming in at all hours of the day,so if so inclined give me a  P M !!! for crap sake's,there probably going to eat my camera next, then I might go at them on my own and you or me doesn't want that  :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :bash: :bash: :bash:

just so me ,you, and fish and feathers is clear ,!!! I don't hunt anything over bait I've hunted since I was 8 or 9 I'm 56 now ,never needed bait before and never will ,like I've stated before,I'm hunting new property and just checking out the what , when wheres and hows ,my tree stand is up and its a half mile from my camera site, and I've seen it all but Mr. majestic but I know hes there,i use my calling skills, which I have spent a lot of studying time with Mr Wayne Charlton and I've done just fine regardless of what our voters try to do to our hunting rights,O BOY DONT GET ME STARTED!!! DAMDABLE WOLVES !!! :bash: :bash: :bash: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:If I was heartless ,stupid, and a uncaring sole like the crooks that prey on hunters equipment,in the woods I wouldn't be posting it on the best forum for us hunting fanatics for all those, commissioned, officers to profit off of.and I mean that BABE,O K ,that being said I'm off to the cam again, and yes put down more bait ,that record rack is the cats pajamas, dont waste your time with anything else ,its not cheap but give it a try.

first off I would like to thank you guys for the help on the computer I'm working on that still, secondly this camera thing I've done several times with pheasant deer and elk but never got film on elk yet I was going to try that this year for the first time, with deer it all has to do with positioning with the wind and I'm sure with Mr. nostrils it will be even more difficult, but these roads are completely over grown and not used at all I can move through there not making a sound, because its actually soak en wet were I'm at (so I'm sure you guessed I'm not in 364 ) :chuckle:were gunna give it a try but don't think I'm giving up the whole season on a gulldern, filming project heck guys a man gotta eat !!oh !! and thirdly,( I don't see any caps !!how am I doing ?Well after all that said, today I went up to clear shooting lanes on my tree stand and check the camera ,didn't want to go in this late but it was grown over so no choice. On the way out it was pretty exciting in the middle of the trail out I saw what I thought was a dog but when I got closer ( IT WAS A BROWN BEAR !  )as I went to get the go pro out of my shirt pocket I heard a very close sound ,15 yards to my left was a black bear ,for some strange reason he goes up a tree ten yards from me and just stairs at me.Of course in the commotion I lost the chance to get the brown bear on film,I'm just sick about that, but I did get the black bear going further up the tree, pretty cool stuff, and now back to the I don't know bear hunting thing. Are brown bears leagal ? and do you have to use your already established choice of weapon still.(darn learning curve ! )Didn't see this stuff in the states hunting bible, yes I looked !! :bash: :bash:

Brown phase black bears are legal. You do not have to choose a weapon for bear so you can use what you have as long as it is legal for big game.

Head cam, arm cam....all good. Mounted to the bow is a no no. Here is an example for you of "view". You will want to kind of wear it on your temple...off set a bit to be looking straight down the bow. Also, you can see I have a litte bow torque...never noticed until I watched it....remind myself to keep that left hand loose and not "grip it".

First day in the stand one hour later it was obvious a bear was coming down the trail, he came right into range, but there was a very obvious sound behind him or her ?So as to the manly manual of bear hunting I waited to see if cubs were coming down the trail , well it wasn't cubs at all it was the bigger guy I had seen on the trail cam a mile away or so !!At the end of it all I took no shot .But I know it will happen again so I'm not worried at all .It was very clear they didn't know I was there at all so after I finish this stupid painting job I will be back in that stand waiting for my first bear ever,so many there I know its a good chance.!!!  :chuckle:

Are you sure the first one wasn't a cub?

The first bear was a good size I was ready to take him but had to be sure of what was approaching,I'm going back up there, and I think the next time I hear a bulldozer coming down the trail I think ill climb down and pursue ,they sure seem to take there time ,while digging around ,blowing up stumps, and ripping stuff apart,so I'm thinking just persue them.i put my stand on the trail they use but I don't know if I can depend on that again so that's my plan. :dunno: :dunno: ;)

still working on learning to post pics , but I went ahead and added a bear tag for the first time ever,i wonder if I can get this forum connected to my tree stand in case I'm suddenly face with tracking a shot bear,so Waite a half our before pursuit, and don't plan on a death groan,I'm just going to hope on the bear responding to my elk calls ???hope that's right if not set me straight pleeeeeease !! I've got a feeling this is going to happen because this area has not been disturbed for years ,and I really believe this ,I need to learn to post videos , and pics ill be having a go pro on the bow   :bdid:and a buddy walking the miles of unused roads with a camera just hope I can get something interesting on film, best of luck out there :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:
:bdid:

I'm not sure that you understand: Shooting a bear anywhere near human placed bait could be considered shooting a baited bear and is an illegal act. It sounds like your bait is in a good bear area so I wouldn't be surprised if you get even more bear coming to your bait. If you are afraid to hunt in the area where your bait has attracted these bear then pack a pistol for protection. Generally speaking a bear will run when it smells, hears, or sees a human so you really don't have too much too worry about but it's perfectly legal to pack a pistol while bowhunting "for protection" in case you were to get charged.

So I was reading this article on tree stand edicate and they were saying that it is a good idea to wash your tree stand seat twice a year for scent reasons. Well im thinking this bear im after is in agreement on that issue.I got to the stand at 530 am yesterday and my stand was destroyed ,it was sitting almost upside down and the seat was 30 yards away in shreds.Istart to wonder if im breaking another law by likeing mexacan food so much, or by sweating from climbing the huge hill on the way to the stand, wich both could be labled using attractants to get this mr. destroyer to come in ??Ihavent seen him in three times up there im wondering if hes gone nocturnel on me,any way that's two camera brackets and a tree stand seat he owes me now ,and in some way he has the lead on me !!Well now im pissed and headed back up in the evening see if I can catch him on the way to destroy my Sameria, its about the same size as him so I think ill change my parking spot everytime, some might think im kidding but this darn critter is on the war path and im going to meet him at some point for sure !!  ( GO HAWKS !! ) AND SAFE HUNTING TO ALL ! :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :bash: :bash:sorry mr. educate the spell check wasn't working for some yoogle reason ?

If what ever he was eating played out he may have moved to another food source! Find the food and you will find the bear. Good luck!

Well mR.steen ? that's cuz I work to much I geuss ,but im telling everyone as of Friday im out at the cabin and tree stand my new set up is in range of a freeeegn game highway and im there till something happens or I just fall asleep teathered to the tree from being way to relaxed for the first time in three weeks,we went up and really got the stand hidden well and there is sign everywhere, also this is in the area where I had the camera set up and had three bears in one pic,so my hopes are high for my first bear . I have all the stuff to do my own rug and watched several vidioes so any way just letting the crowd know I have not given up at all and yes the vidioe and pics are comeing !!!  :bash: :bash:

Information update,;I spent the last two days in the stand haven't seen the big black critters since the last time 4 weeks ago ,looks like the berries are gone on the hills and the bears are too ??Iwas wondering ,do they bed or den down in the same place or do they move around according to food sources ?One thing for sure I got plenty of deer for that late bow season in December,i see them everyday and they are good size I have 6 days on that late season for does so looks like I wont starve this winter.During the summer I had the camera up with bate and the bears were on it every day ,even had 3 in one picture, :yike: :yike: were did they go ,moveing according to food sources,if so what should I be looking for,any advice is very much appreciated.Anyways ,good luck out there and leave some for late bow,you missle launchers !! :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:
