Special Permits
« on: April 02, 2007, 08:55:15 PM »
Let's hear the stories and see the pics of the special permits you have all drawn.  I drew a big bull tag last fall in goose prairie but was unable to fill it.

I don't have enough points built up to pull a permit. But I keep trying.

If I remember right, this was 2004 and she drew with 2 points.  Her first elk.  That was one of the funnest hunts I have ever been on.  It just couldn't have turned out better.  I got her into the middle of a whole herd, she turned down a smaller one, and this guy walked out.  he ripped up a couple trees and finally stepped broadside out in the open.  Boom, one shot, one kill.  It took a bit to find him, but that was just the country we were in.  Better than any of my own kills in regards to excitement for me.  It now hangs in our living room.

In this state it doesn't matter how many points you have. With zero points you still have a chance.

Ive drawn two branch tags in the past 5 yrs.  Its always a fun hunt. My first hunt didnt turn out quite the way anyone would plan, I lost a bull on the second day...my brother shot a 6 point...the second time around my brother shot a 5 pt and I got a spike on the last day I could hunt.

I drew Peaches ridge archery in '02 and killed a 240" 6 point. No digitalized pics of him.

Awesome hunt! Hope to draw it again.  I was hoping to kill a big bull but having a screaming 6 point in front of me at 20 yards got the best of me and I let fly. No regrets. It's amazing to me that the success rate for the archery hunt is only 15-17 %.

I drew a late season permit last year, Dec. 2006, and got my first mature bull.  I'm having a shoulder mount of the bull, but looking around the house I don't know where I'll put it.  I thought the meat would be gamey because it hung longer than I usually allow, but cooked over the gas grill is best.
