New server coming again...
« on: June 16, 2014, 10:15:32 PM »
Yep, the server is doing things it shouldn't, Liroy says we need to move to a new server, not sure when it's going to happen, I will keep everyone posted. Remember, if something happens and you can't get on the forum, check what is up on the H-W facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/HuntingWashington

Is this happening because you buying discount servers or because we are blowing the site up?  :chuckle:

Are you implying i should apply for the new moderators job H2fowlr? Ive been spending so much time on hold lately while making sales calls i practically live on here. Too bad the free advertising wouldn't help my business any. Mostly because the boss has poor customer service skills. You should see the new sign outside the shop!  :chuckle:

The server continually runs RAID checks for no apparent reason, this is why it has been so slow for several weeks. Best answer seems to be to replace the server. When running correctly the current configuration does well so we'll likely do the same configuration when we change servers.

current configuration:

Intel Core i5
8GB DDR3 Memory
2x 1TB Hard Drive (In RAID1 configuration. This means that the drives mirror each other. Should one drive fail, the server won't go down and no data will be lost, the broken drive can be replaced and it will rebuild the mirror.)
3500GB Traffic
100Mbit Connection
cPanel/WHM
Nginx
Remote rebooter
Full Management

Ah, the benefits of success. Thanks Dale.

Hi Dale,

I've noticed that last couple PM's I've received have come from the server with the members actual e-mail addresses, rather than a notification that their message is in my mailbox.  Plus, the message is NOT in my HuntWA mailbox.  Just a message to my personal e-mail with no link back to the web site.  ALso, I've responded to some friends PM's on here and not heard anything back.  So, not 100% sure they received anything.

Just wanted to give you a heads up and maybe see if anyone else is having the same issues too.

Thanks,

Ed T

OK thanks for the info. It could be that the members sent you email from the site. If you look next to the pm icon on most profiles there is an email icon, they may have used that icon to send the message.

FYI - We suspect there are also some type of coding and programming issues in our files but there isn't much sense in trying to address those issues until we make the server change.

Not sure how much this is costing... But have you considered putting this in the Amazon cloud? They have pretty good facilities and support a Windows Server platform among others. You could even spread the load across multiple servers (put it behind an amazon load balancer).

Yes, I'm a consultant :) but not for amazon.

I've been under the impression that our needs require a dedicated server. Data loss is also a concern, we have twin 1T hard drives with one mirroring the other to prevent data loss.
