rude road hunter rant
« on: December 04, 2008, 07:44:33 AM »
Two days ago I was out bow hunting.  I had the evening hunt and knew just where I wanted to be.  With approx 3 hours left before dark I had to not waist time on the roads.  I was approx 3 miles from my ridge when I came up behind a truck with three hunters obviously road hunting.  This inherintly is not a bad thing (not for me though), well untill they would not give me the right of way to get past.  They drove at less than 5 mph for a mile and past 4 turnouts and never once let me by.  They even stopped in the road and got their bows out to look at a deer on the next ridge 200-300 yrds away and just let me sit behind them.  Finally I got tired of following them and turned around and chose another spot.

Am I wrong for thinking they should have given me the right away?   I was so mad I couldn't see straight.   >:( >:(

The worst part of the whole thing is it appeared to be a boy (10-12 yrs old), dad and grandpa.  So it looks like we have three generations of rude and the cycle will not stop there.   :bdid:

I'm with bowhunter, give em the horn if they aren't going to move. I don't think I have ever encountered someone who did not let me by.

That is some "Oldschool" rudeness there. We used to see that back when I was a kid, used to piss me off even then.

Personally, if we are road hunting...I move aside if soemone is behind us. When they got out to see the deer I would have got out too and asked them to please move out of your way you would like to get to your spot and finish out the night.
Better luck next time.

This reminds me of two years ago. My brother and I were up in the teanaway deer hunting on a weekday. We were driving down the North Fork dirt road heading down low to hunt off the paved road, we had about two miles left on the dirt until we hit the pavement and there was a truck and behind the truck was a car and then us. The truck was going 5mph and wouldnt pull over at any of the turn outs, the car tried to pass the truck once and the truck almost ran him off the road, finally the car makes it around the truck. So now its us tring to get to our spot before dark, we tap the horn a couple of times but this ahole would not pull over. So after a slow drive out we hit the pavement and zip around them, and in all my fustration i whip the little birdy out the window. Finally getting to where we wanted to hunt, get our gear on and hop the fence. Well here comes the dumba$$ driving by. Then we see the brake lights and this guy backs up pulls up the fence and 3 guys get out. Each one of these guys were at least 6' and 250lb. No joke!
Now my brother and I are on the smaller side, say 5'7" 150lb. Anyways one of the guys says which one of you guys gave us the bird, all three guys jump the fence, say they are going to brake off our fingers! We told them not to be so f in rude and they went off about how this is thier back yard and they can do anything they like and told us to go back to Seattle, well it escalated to one of the guys pushing my bro, and we tell them its not to smart to pick a fight with two little guys with guns. All they said was shot me! I was actully kind of scared, these guys were huge! Well they followed us the road about 50 yards and finally started laughing at us and finally left. I am pretty sure i could of shot the Ahole and claimed self defense! (and they were up there jsut gettting fire wood) I have never been so mad in my life. But there was nothing I could do. These guys were all older too, most likley in thier 40s.

Maybe I shouldnt have let the bird fly but these guys were down right AHOLES!!!! And if they are on here they can kiss my arse!

I did tap the horn once as we passed the last and largest turn out.  It was apparent at this time though they were not going to move.  I was also out numbered 3 to 1 and 45 minutes from the nearest pavement, I didn't need trouble out there.  Not to mention they were not setting a good example for the young kid in their truck and I didn't need to set an even worse example by escalating the incident.  I did however get their licence plate number and description of their truck.  I was going to post it and the area we were in but again common sense has gotten the better of me.  I am a strong believer in karma and believe they will get whats coming to them.   :mor:

That stinks.....its one thing to not have pullouts and wanting to look at the scenery entirely another not to use them  :bash:

Not saying that they were OLD, just that you might expect that from some young kids but not full grown adults!

, and in all my fustration i whip the little birdy out the window.

Reminds me of one time when my wife, brother and me were going hunting.  Some a-holes had pissed us off and as we were passing them I told my brother and wife that we would all flip them off as we go by.  Well, my wife flipped the bird but my brother and I just looked straight ahead...... :chuckle: :chuckle:.  I still get a chuckle out of that memory........
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

You were absolutely right in your thinking! I know sometimes, in daylight hours, people are so focused on looking at the landscape that they do not realize someone is behind them for a short distance. That certainly was not the case in your experience. Some people are flat out rude and self serving. I typically flash the high beams a couple times and that usually does it but I have run in to the exception. It is a heck of a way to start or end the hunt. If they are that rude on the road, they are generally that way in the woods too.
