I love bear season - it's the beginning of the best time of the year!

I'm so busy with other stuff this season has really snuck up on me. I'll hunt the first weekend hard then I'm off to new York for a week. Would be nice to put one down early this year.

Me too. I'm scouting for elk the first weekend but I'll take the rifle "just in case". I don't believe the bear population in my elk area is too great though.

It'll likely be mid-late august before I'll have any solid findings I'm guessing.

Hopping on the bike this week to go check out an area that I have high hopes for. I wanted to do it this last week but its been to dang hot! Just going to have to buck up and start super early so I can cover ground while its still cool.

Between 1 and 2:00 on the hottest sunniest days above 3,500' have been some of my very best bear hunts. I have no idea why they want to be out in that heat. You'd think a black animal would stay clear of the hot sun

Maybe the nice warm berries are just too much for a hungry bear to pass up

I'm really excited. First year with a tag, found a couple berry patches hopefully things work out. Not sure if I will use the bow or 300 win mag yet though. Just have to see what presents itself I guess. I would like to get one with the bow.

My season doesn't start till Sep. And at 6400' its not too bad. I dont mind waiting till its cooler. Last year it was mild enough that there where still huckleberries:tup:

Doing the family thing right now. Down in Long beach. Next weekend hunts get to get together. Then off to the coast for bear calling and elk scouting. Keep wanting to do a bear camp for new guys. To see what to look for and calling. Been making bear calls, distress, deer distress and elk talk. Pump. Wanted to go to Cle Elum just to many fires. Good luck every one. Rick

Rick, I'm planning on giving one of those distress calls you sent me a workout come August 1st. I've got a little spot that has become too over grown to simply spot and shoot. But the bear are still in there thick. Really Thick!!! Those double reed calls should be just the ticket

I need to find some new coastal bear spots. With the consecutive poor berry years in the cascades the quality of meat hasn't been as high as it used to be. Makes it hard to beat the taste of those Salal berry eating pigs on the coast. Might need to put in some time scouting for next year!

Yes, good luck to all. Seeing multiple bears around stanwood the last few weeks has me getting the itch. Also, I have permission to access some private property that connects into a large power line cut, so,it should be a great little exploration/hunt this season.

Saw three bears Saturday. One was small, one I tried calln in closer but didn't workn out , the other my sister shot. All three were brown color, her bear wasn't big but lots of real nice hair. Nothn yesterday , sitn here waiting for the sun come up
